Illness can strike at any time in a persons life. However I think its rather sad that he brought it up and is making it such a public display. You never ever let an opponent know theres a weakness, especially when your facing a devestating body puncher like Cotto. If Gomez gets blown out then you can expect him to use it as an excuse so that he won't get filed down the line as an over hyped contender. Its like his camp is trying to do damage control before he even loses.

Gomez is tryin to make a name for himself. I mean, who wouldn't? He's fighting a guy who's popularity rises on a daily basis and is to me the top "active" Welterweight in the division.

But I don't think it would be a travesty if Cotto goes passed the 6th round with Gomez. Cotto has never been an early finisher. Most of his fights go into the later rounds after his opponent is beat physically and he then goes for the kill. I said 7-8 rounds the fight "should" be done.

I'm a Cotto fan, but this is surely a mismatch.

It's very doubtful that Cotto or his team are watching these build-up bits, and Gomez isn't the type to make many excuses. He most likely had acute pancreatitis, which while very painful is temporary, hence he'll be hundred percent for Cotto. They just amped up the drama in the video.

And Cotto is going to go to the body anyway. If his people did any research at all on Gomez, they'd discover he's thought to have a pretty good chin, besides Cotto being good at going to the body. Gomez has stated that he would prepare for his body attack in interviews.
