I'd say home-field advantage is a big thing.

1: The judges gets influenced by the crowd. The blows from one fighter becomes more visible to the judges when the punch is accompanied by a huge roar. (Helps explain a lot of Ottkes wins.....)
2: The travelling fighter must leave his home to establish training facilities in a foreign place, while the home-town guy can stay in his normal surroundings.
