It was a BAD STOPPAGE!! and here's why.....

Granted Lee was hurt in that round but he was winning the fight. Lee was in no way incoherent. He was still throwing meaningful punches.

Most people's argument for it being a good stoppage is that he probably was going to get knocked, so why not let him get knocked.

A knockdown or a standing 8 count may have been what Lee needed. By peoples logic on here JM Marquez should have been stopped vs Pac Man.

Vera was being pummeled in the first ref allowed it to continue he took his knockdown and you saw how that worked for him.

If a ref stopped a fight every time a fighter was hurt or looked like he may go down this forum would be up in arms every weekend.

You're right. It's a real shame, what can we do about it though? It really was Lee's fault for being drawn into Vera's fight.

If the ref hadnt stepped in I believe Lee would have survived the fight. He's a tough guy. The ref was being over-protective...he had his eye on a stoppage from the moment Lee got slightly stunned.

I thought it was good but it doesnt matter.

Lee showed he is a better fighter then Vera when he was dominating Vera on the outside.

Vera pulled him out of his gameplan and Lee lost cause he cant fight on the inside.

Its a good learning experience for Lee. And if they fight again, i think Lee would come on with a vengance and get rid of Vera early, like 4 or 5 rounds.

He NEEDS to improve that inside game though, and EMANUEL STEWARD is not the right guy to show him how. THats not what steward does.

I agree, he needs to improve but that stoppage has really angered me because of the detrimental effect it may have on Lee's career.

Imagine if the ref stopped Pavlik in the first Taylor fight when he was taking punishment.

I thought the stoppage was questionabke since Lee was firing back but at the same time I think Lee fought the wrong fight and gave Vera the opportunity to land winging shots..I mean Lee could have taken a knee, it probably would have gotten him out of the round and he still could have won the fight since he was clearly winning up to that point.

He was getting clobbered the whole round..
If he didn't want to get stopped then maybe he should have stepped it up and done something about it.

Neither Lee or Steward disagreed with the stoppage so that tells you he was hurt and he himself knew he was out of it.

he was being continuously hit with big shots, it was the accumulation that caused the stoppage not that last punch and how he reacted

a fighter may look like he can take it, but the referee's job is to protect the fighter from possible permanant damage that wouldnt be evident until later on in life.

Steward never dissagrees with decisions. Can you point me to the interview where Lee agreed with the stoppage please?

I hear you but it's not that bad. Pavlik fought the undisputed champ and Pavlik had already established his career. Lee's got 16 fights and he got a bs stoppage against a bum. They'll probably have a rematch and Lee will probably mow him down this time around.

The first thing Lee did was motion with his arms to his corner in a 'What!?' gesture.
