Lets take a look at what he has going for him:

    The Bad:
    1. Mind numbingly slow hand speed.
    2. Punching power that is mediocre at best.
    3. Slow foot speed.
    4. ZERO head movement.
    5. Mediocre blocking ability.
    6. Very very questionable boxing skill.
    7. Poor ring intelligence.
    8. Inability to adapt to changes in tactics.

    The Good:
    1. Very good work rate
    2. Very good chin
    3. Tall for the Welterweight division
    4. He might be strong, I'm not exactly sure but I'll give it to him for fairness sake.
    5. Good reach.

So we basically have a tall come forward fighter that cannot get on his toes and box, throws lots of SLOW punches without much behind them, has virtually no defense, and is easily out thought.

How exactly is he suppose to beat Cotto? If you are under the impression that the way to beat Cotto, is to stand in front of him and let him beat on you, then you are sadly mistaken.
The way he came out and destroyed Golden Johnson is the way he should fight Cotto.

Why? He was right in Johnson's face, blasting power punches, he is arguably more powerful than Cotto and he has a better chin than Cotto. In this fight, Cotto would be forced to box more than exchange.

It would be nice if all fights weny that way but Cotto will give him a lot more to think about than what Golden Johnson was ever able to manage at his best. Margarito knew what Johnson was there for and stepped it up without fear. He gets that aggressive with Cotto and he will get taken apart.

I'm not comparing Golden Johnson to Cotto, I'm saying the style that Margarito came out with in that fight is the way to get to Cotto. I feel that Margarito should be right there in Cotto's face throwing punches, especially uppercuts up the middle and he will give Cotto a lot to think about. Cotto got hurt early against Judah when he wasn't warmed up yet, Margarito could get to him early if he came out aggressive.

I actually think Cotto will go back to counterpunching mode in this fight and try not to engage Margarito because Margarito has a very good chin. Either way, their styles make for an explosive fight.

You are seriously using the defeat of an OLD washed up journeyman who consequently was blown out of the water by Shane Mosley at 135lb as a measuring stick to how Margarito will perform against Cotto?

Why not look at how he did against his last 2 live opponents? Paul Williams and Joshua Clottey.

Both out thought, and out fought Margarito.

Joshua Clottey was making Margarito look truly mediocre until he stopped punching because he broke BOTH his hands on Margarito's face. Not only did he make Margarito look very very ordinary, he did a lot of it fighting off the ropes.

Now lets talk about Paul Williams. The man that outworked, outboxed, and outfought the Mexican bad ass. He showed that Margarito is easily confused by anything even remotely resembling movement and a jab.

You talk about Cotto's chin. Its not as bad as people make it out to be. His equilibrium is easily disturbed, but I have never seen him out on his feet, or real serious trouble.

His head stays clear, and he does not lose his composure. He is simply easily wobbled, but this often works to his advantage. Going after a wobbly Miguel Cotto who is still thinking clearly, is still composed, and can still punch is not a good idea.

Also, if you look at the fighters that did wobble him, and the kind of punishment he was able to absorb while he was on shake legs, it is quite impressive.

Take Ricardo Torres for example. Torres was 28-0 with 28 ko's when he made Cotto do his chicken dance. Still, Cotto continued to fight intelligently even while hurt, and absorbing incredible punishment.

I think he proved his chin is good enough in that fight.

His chin is like laminated glass. Its easy to crack, but impossible to shatter.
