As for the Jones-Toney comparison, I don't find it valid because Calzaghe doesn't have the same footwork that Jones did, Jones used his footwork to jump in and out of Toney's range a lot, Calzaghe doesn't do that, Jones' handspeed was faster as well.

Thinking about what Tunney said and to a degree i can see where he is coming from

i think Toney looks good when u attack him ,but there are 2 ways of attacking someone 1 where u come foward and turn your shots over & u right hand ends up on Toneys shoulder leaving him to Come back with the right hand, then there is the other way like the way Roy Jones did it which is to attack but dont turn your shots all the way over where u are closer in to get countered stay on the outside & outpoint him from thier with fast flurries

Calzaghe is capable of staying on the outside & flurrying to outpoint u aswell

            that is a great point

the things what confused Toney against Griffin & Jones was there footwork and ability to step around him when he was slipping punches and attack him from another angle ,which in turn left him

I think an in-shape Toney is a bad match-up for Calzaghe.

If you put the Toney from the Barkley (who was well-conditioned) fight against Calzaghe, I'd pick Toney. But if Toney comes to fight out of shape, he would be outworked.

Not to compare Calzaghe with Barkley but the job Toney does on Iran Barkley at 03:55-04:35 in this vid is flawless.

Kessler found the uppercut a good weapon to use against Calzaghe. Kessler had no answer for Calzaghe's handspeed, movement and inside fighting though.

I still think it's a close fight because Toney had trouble with movement and handspeed (Calzaghe has it) but I think Calzaghe would be the one coming forward most of the time.
That's when Toney was at his best, when his opponent came forward. Calzaghe can adapt though... but he would be taken out of his most comfortable position which is to come forward and throw a ton of punches.

The fight with Hopkins should show how Calzaghe would do against Toney even though Hopkins is old.

If Calzaghe can deal with Hopkins easily, I think he could also deal with Toney (unless Hopkins looks completely shot as a fighter).

Jones was very smart, he'd throw a shot then move to his right, Toney's left, because Toney normally slipped shots by ducking down and to his right with his arms encircling his body and his right hand poised to counter, so whenever Jones moved to his right, Toney couldn't counter him with anything.

Prime Toney that came in prepared and in shape could be one of the top 20 greatest fighters ever. Calzaghe without the hand problems was power, speed, and smarts all amalgamated into one. Damn tough fight to say who would win.

yeah that is a great point aswell ,i know exactly what u are saying cause ive tried to emulate Toney defensive shell , rolling with the 1 2 and coming back with the right hand & when u have to bend to your left it is very uncomfortable & u feel very vulnerable aswell
