marquez vs pacman was closer, marquez outboxed pacman and castillo outboxed and pressured gayweather throughout the fight. marquez and castillo both won

              Id say

              2 and 8 for Marquez
              3 and 10 for PAC

all the others can go either way.

why compare these fights? Castillo won the first and pac vs mar 2 could have gone either way.

                    ?

Why is that the standard response to every fight in which a guy who comes forward loses?

"Hey, he came forward all night and didn't stop throwing punches! That means he won!"

There really is more to boxing than just coming forward. If you're a counter puncher it means that you should be scored on how well you executed your specific fight plan and vice versa if you're an aggressive come-forward fighter. Just because a counter puncher goes backwards does not mean they should lose every fight against another guy who comes forward the whole time. It's how well each fought his fight.

If a counter puncher controlled the pace of the fight, picked off the other guys shots and got his own counters in effectively using the others aggression against him then he wins that battle, whether he was going backwards or not.

I don't know if you're commenting on Marquez/Pacquiao or Mayweather/Castillo but if it is Marquez/Pacquiao, as I think it is, then you might have noticed that both fights were controlled more by Marquez. Especially the latest one. I think if you watch it again you'll notice Pacquiao didn't come forward as much as he normally does and there were many points in the fight in which he was stationary or getting backed up himself.

Going backwards does not automatically lose you points in a fight. If you're being pushed back and not effectively countering and controlling the distance and pace of the fight and being hit whilst going backwards then you are most likely being controlled, not controlling. There is a big difference and too many boxing fans simply don't understand this concept.

They were both close fights and while the scoring was much worse in the Mayweather/Castillo fight, being so wide and one sided for Mayweather, I still feel that Mayweather was a more likely winner than Pacquiao was. Mayweather won a lot of the opening rounds and Castillo came on strong in the second half. I personally thought Marquez was a close but clear winner of both fights against Pacquiao. I actually thought the rematch was a wider win for Marquez than the first fight. It will be very sad if Pacquiao doesn't give a rematch to Marquez. Then we might know for sure.

Both good fights. Both probably went to the wrong fighter. Both had more money and potential money riding on the fighter's that did win. Funny that.
