    CompuBox Post Analysis: Marquez-Pacquiao

By CompuBox - No matter how many times Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez fight, they will produce nip-and-tuck affairs that are difficult to judge. Their first fight in May 2004 was a split draw that sparked plenty of debate and last Saturday’s rematch followed the same blueprint as Pacquiao captured a razor-thin split decision to win Marquez’s WBC super featherweight belt. With the victory, Pacquiao becomes the ninth man to win four divisional crowns, and the plan calls for the Filipino icon to gun for a fifth this summer. [details]

I agree!!! To JMM, Man Up and accept defeat~

Let's look forward to the future~

If I'm the Promoter, I will make a:
      June 2008:
      Marquez vs Morales
      Pacquiao vs D.Diaz

      September 2008
      Pacquiao vs Campbell
      Marquez vs Valero

      If they win there fights:
      December 2008 or Early 2009:
      Pacquiao vs Marquez III

Despite the above arguments in Marquez’s favor, if a judge had based his card solely on who connected more on a round-by-round basis (which they don’t), Pacquiao would have come out ahead 6-5-1, or 115-114. Incidentally, the even round occurred in the third, and had an extra point been awarded the scorecard would have read 115-113 Pacquiao, which would have been close to Duane Ford’s card of 115-112.

        exactly what i was saying.
i said earlier that i wanted a RBR of the compubox stats.

it's nice reading fans comments on the fights. but last night's fight was already settled, pacman got it whether you like or not! knocking down marquez in the third sealed pac's win. for marquez to avenge the draw, and the losses of hosts of mexican boxers in the hands of pacman, he should have fight like juan diaz (before), but he did not. but i admire JMM's courage and spirit to fight. i like to see him fighting pacman again in the future.

This article spits some seriously ******ed ****. And doesn't take into account who was the aggressor and who was unwilling to come forward because he would of gotten KO'd. Thank god for Duane Ford. His score of 115-112 was spot on, because Marquez was KD'd twice in the 3rd. Thought the ref didn't call it.

I salute the judges. To sell boxing, the fighters have to make it more competitive. Knock-downs and knock-outs have to be main theme, unless there is successful recovery and convincing, repeated & equivalent counters to compensate a knockdown. When we pay for a ticket, we can say we got its worth when we see a knockdown. It is more entertaining and gives our heart more lively beats. :-)

For Marquez Fans, tell him to at least knock-down his opponents.

For Pacquiao Fans, tell him to give more knock downs/KOs.

If yall really judge fights via compubox, shame on you

Marquez didnt win rounds by landing a ton of punches, he won rounds by snapping Pacquiao's head back with right hands and countering effectively. not to mention he threw some nice combinations, altho sometimes the punches didnt always land.

besides you goofballs, if you actually look, Pacquiao only landed 1 punch more in 2 of the rounds listed that he won. even if those numbers are correct, youre really just going to give Pacquiao those rounds because he landed one more punch? how about you look at the kind of punches landed instead?

watching a fight on tv compared to ringside is different. up close you could really see and feel who's got more pop and whose punches do more damage. on rounds where stats are almost even, pac has the edge on this.

Marquez gets knocked down three times in first fight then outboxes Pac and gets a draw. He gets knocked down one time and outboxes Pac and gets a loss.
