what tactics will hopkins use to beat calzaghe

i had an argument with a mate of mine over the fight i see it as being fairly easy for joe c and i think after round 7/8 he will score a TKO. i think he will force hopkins to fight his fight and at a pace that hopkins wont be able to live with. anyways i wanted to ask how do you tink that hopkins will try and beat joe c heres what i think he'll be aiming to do:

    - butting, mauling and shoving: hkpkins will try and come in as the naturally bigger man and will hope that he can shove joe calzaghe around and hopefully put him off his game. i reckon that hes gonna try and close the distance on the inside and get off any shots hile he can along with the odd headbutt.

    - the counter right: this is a punch that joe has always been suspect to in fact this is the punch that knocked him down vs bryon mitchell (admittedly it caught him real good on the temple). hopkins will be hoping that his stronger punches will hurt joe c - expecially if he can catch him off guard like byron did.

you could say counter punching as well but i think that joe c isnt worried about that - if hopkins counters joe, joe will just counter him back. joe c isnt afraid of gettin hit (he will take 2 punches to land 3/4 thanks to his handspeed) hes only been down once and has an iron chin (see the kessler fight).

If hopkins does come close it will be to dirty tactics like the ones displayed by Bika when he fought Calzaghe.
Calzaghe will walk through him though.

He's gonna use his reach...Joe doesn't extend his punches all the way and won't be able to find Bernard, at least not easily

A mix of shoves, clinches, elbows, and counter punches...

joe will use his superior footwork though to get in and out fast - btw how o you see the fight playing out you see hopkins winning by KO or UD?

Mitchell was a bigger hitter than Hopkins is, and anyway Hopkins isn't going to stand and trade like MItchell did. [edit: so I see no relevance in this comparison]

Counterpunching as you mention isn't going to work . . . it will lead to too much trading that Calzaghe will get the better of every time.

Sure Hopkins will somtimes land lead rights while Joe is coming in. I don't care honestly if Hopkins lands 75% of these. Joe is going to get the last punches off in every exchange.

If it's a dirty infight I see this favoring Calzaghe as well, who uses his elbows fine, will rabbit punch Hopkins if 'Nard looks at the floor, etc.,

The only hope for Hopkins is to break Joe's nose with a headbutt, of for Joe to break his hands on the top of Hopkins head. Hopkins I think will throw one shot at a time and step right, ducking well below Joe's waist.

The rules will likely be broken by both fighters in every exchange. However if the referee favors Hopkins head usage and punishes Joe's rabbit punching, which is what I expect, then it could be messy and closer than otherwise

Calzaghe should win this one.....but dont forget, hes never been in a fight this large away from home, hes 35 and could fade anytime.

The fact that most people think that Joe will win this one might, just might mean he'll come in, in not quite as good condition as he did for Lacy and Kessler.

Hopkins has a very nice right hand counter and is good with southpaws, a win here surely cements his legacy!

I do lean towards Calzaghe by decision, may even have a flutter at the draw!

I say most likely a decision win for Hopkins, he will take around 7-9 of the rounds. It will be hard to KO Calzaghe because he is in tremendous shape, but If Hopkins goes hard to the body he could end things.

And Joe does NOT have superior footwork. He has good footwork but a lot of times is off balance. He looks quick but he's similar to Hatton his feet can get wild and can't really do anything off it. Bernard is of the elite in the game when it comes to foot movement.

I don't think even Joe himself envisions anything like that. Whatsoever.
