he also got dropped by much lesser fighters-punchers....

i certainly dont think the thread is ****** because of louis' left low hand issue and his questionable chin...the same can be said of haye obviously....but this is not a mismatch at all...

Are we talking about the Louis that held the heavweight championship for 11 years or the Joe Louis that fought Marciano?

Please don't tell me that Baer could anything like boxing?
Every solid amateur after 1 year of training has nowadays more skill.

I'm still not saying Haye beats Louis.
True, the cruiserweight today are like the heavyweights in Louis' era aside from the few big guys like Simon, Carnera and B. Baer.

The size wouldn't be a problem for either guy because they've fought bigger opponents.

To me, it's tough to see Haye beat any great fighter right now because his best wins come over fighters like Mormeck and Maccarinelli, who are solid fighters but not very good...
We will see how he does in the heavyweight division. The hype could end very quickly.

The boxing skills of Joe Louis. Too bad the quality is bad.

Max Schmeling dropped him in rounds four and 12 of their first match.

Jimmy Braddock dropped him in round one.

Tony Galento came off the deck to floor Louis in round three.

Buddy Baer floored him in round one of their first meeting.

Jersey Joe Walcott decked him in round one and round four of their first bout.

Walcott knocked Louis down in round three of their second performance.

Rocky Marciano posted two knockdowns against him in the eighth round.

A grand career total of ten knockdowns.

Boxing looks different now. As does any other sport out there.

But if you're going to compare fighters from different era's, you have to go on accomplishments and who they beat, not how it looks on tape.

Otherwise, you would have to compare talent.
If Ali was around today, brought up today, fighting like today, my guess is he would still own everybody.

Yep, but Ali was 28 years younger than Louis or?
Some fighters back than had the skill to still compete with modern fighters, some not.
I was just picking M. Baer (not B. Baer ) to show how bad some were.

                    Thank you for the enlightment.

But that was over the course of 71 fights. Against everybody even remotely considered the best.

I'd like to see Haye after 71 fights. Against everybody even remotely considered the best.
My guess is that he would lose more than Louis did.
