Fighting out of Enzo Calzaghe's impressive stable, rated number five by the WBO and with the WBU Championship in the bag, Welsh middleweight Gary Lockett spoke with BritishBoxing.net about his life in and out of the ring. The big punching 30-year-old, known as the Rocket Man, won the vacant WBU title in March 2006 in what turned out to be a short fight against Battersea based Gilbert Eastman (then 20-3-0)-
“The title is a fringe title if we're all honest about it, but it was a lot of hard work leading up from when I was eight years old and first started boxing. Many setbacks, lots of messing about by various promoters, and I was finally given the chance by Mr Warren to win the title and it was all over in a minute and 20 something seconds, so it was very good to win it." (more)
Something I found strange was the fact he said he doesn't think he can beat Jermain Taylor and Winky Wright because they are elite fighters
. I hope he realises what he's got himself into. He also talks a lot about working with Enzo Calzaghe and about Joe.
