I don't get it, if a guy ducks a punch he evades it. Other than Mayweather's elbow move (a veteran move that you have to commend since he doesn't get penalized), I don't see anything illegal about moving your head and avoiding a punch. That's boxing.

Yopur not supposed to duck you head below your opponents belt by bending at the waist only. If you duck using your legs your cool, but dont just bend forward with your back only and go below the belt.

I believe that its a rule because of blows to the back of the head when you bend at the waist.........Rockin'

I think the criticism of it comes when he doesn't get his head up quick enough (which is sometimes helped by the opponent putting pressure on the back of his head when he is already down there), which limits the ability for an opponent to put punches together.

I do think that is a fair point of the rules. A fighter should be allowed to duck if he is back in position for another punch to be thrown without the danger of a rabbit punch. If a fighter is going to throw a 1-2 and the fighter ducks the jab, it seems unfair if he doesn't get his head up in time for the 2 to be thrown. It is effectively ducking 2 punches with one motion (one with skill and one with a technicality of the rules).

That makes more sense to me. When they said duck, I was thinking weaving or getting under a shot in conventional ways. I don't think bending at the waist is smart to begin with because then your off balance and aren't in position to counter.

Someone needs to tell Maskaev that he forgoes any protest of a rabbit punch if turns his head away from an opponent. When Peter was trying to fight inside, Maskaev would wince away and give his man a target behind the head.

It is illegal to have your head lower than your own hips. So when you bend over forward hand your head goes lower than your hips, it is illegal.

However, it is not illegal to duck and dip low with your knees.

Also, I dont think I have ever seen the rule enforced in the pros' but it is stringently enforced in the amateurs.

Everything is stringently enforced in the amateurs though. Yes, it is indeed illegal to duck below the waist unless you are fighting Nikolai Valuev, otherwise you would need to climb a ****ing ladder to fight him.

Yeah, I think they made an exception for Valuev because the ONLY time you can hit him in the head is when he ducks, otherwise you'll just be hitting his hip.

Fighters that do this alot are: PBF, Quintana, James Toney
