Calzaghe isnt even the best opponent Hopkins has faced....

First would be RJJ. I'm not sure that you can compare Trinidad or de la Hoya to Calzaghe because both would be too small against him. Calzaghe is better than Taylor in my opinion.
That's not because he has great stamina, it's because he is excellent at using the energy that he has in the right way.
I'd also say that Calzaghe does have great stamina. There's no one in the higher weight divisions that throws as many punches as him and does it for all 12 rounds.Last edited by Clegg; 03-11-2008, 06:46 AM.Comment

I disagree, i still think Kessler will have been Joes biggest challenge. He was the young, hungry lion that was supposed replace Joe. Technically good, hard hitting, fast, strong as an ox, and Joe beat him. I don't see the location of the fight and the weight as an issue for Joe, most of the crowd will be rooting for him and what is 7 more pounds to him? Nothing really. The end result may be similar to the Kessler fight, but i don't think he will have to really dig deep again and i don't think he will get his chin tested.but Hopkins is the best opponent Calzaghe will fight. hes not fighting in his backyard, 1st time in the usa, and has to move up in weight. if hopkins didnt get outpointed by jermaine taylor twice no one would even give calzaghe a chance. o yea im not trying to say calzaghe isnt good or the best at his division, but i cant see him beating hopkins by outworking him like many believe.Comment

You mean, your average yank wouldn't have given him a chance. Boxing afficiando's would have given him every chance, ask Sugar Ray Leonard where he putting his money.but Hopkins is the best opponent Calzaghe will fight. hes not fighting in his backyard, 1st time in the usa, and has to move up in weight. if hopkins didnt get outpointed by jermaine taylor twice no one would even give calzaghe a chance. o yea im not trying to say calzaghe isnt good or the best at his division, but i cant see him beating hopkins by outworking him like many believe.
Why not, since when did outworking somebody NOT put you in an imesuarably better position to win the fight. Pavlik - JT II for instance, JT caught Pavlik with some ace counter shots, looked confident and like he had some power and snap in his punches for a change, but Pavlik outworked him all night long, got him blowing and tired, slowed him up......and, oh yes won a UD. I see the fight going very similar to that one apart from Hops not catchin Calz with as many couter rights.
At the pace Calz fights, I predict Hops's unquestionably excellent defense will fall apart in the later rounds, hopefully Calz is not too worried about his hands to try and get Hops out of there.
Of course then when he beats him all of this talk of Hopkins excellent record will be down the pan and of course they'll all be a bunch of bums and Calz wont have proved anything.

I understand you are from Wales but Calzaghe doesn't beat RJJ in his prime, no way no how. RJJ was one of the most naturaly talented fighter's I have ever seen. He was a combination of power and speed that is rarely seen in boxing.
I respect Calzaghe for being a tough fighter and a volume puncher but he's in a perfect era of boxing where he never had to face a prime RJJ, Hopkins or Toney.........Comment

Roy JOnes is the best fighter Hopkins has faced, Calzaghe is second.
Hopkins is NOT the best fighter Joe has faced, he comes in about fourthComment

I said the Calzaghe of today would have beaten that young, green and unfinished Roy Jones that Hopkins fought all those years ago. Roy obviously got better after his fight with Bernard.I understand you are from Wales but Calzaghe doesn't beat RJJ in his prime, no way no how.
