usually the ring is a month behind so more then likely Vazquez marquez will be on the issue after the De La Hoya one.

Personally, I went with 'I'd need to read the article.'

The reason I went with that choice is because if anything is written well enough, I'd like to read it. You also have to take into account the fact that the cover is what publications bank on selling magazines. With this approach, they reach out to casual fans. Who/what, in boxing, brings out the casual fans like Oscar De La Hoya? It's good on a business point, so I can't really argue with the choice there.

Morally, it's not like the magazine hasn't used him to sell copies in the past. It's not like OUT OF NOWHERE they put hi on the cover. Just because he bought the company. He's been a regular on the front spot for quite some time now. So, you can't really fault them for doing something out of the ordinary.

You could argue that there are people more deserving than Oscar De La Hoya, but you have to remember a few things. For one, those people have to be able to sell. Mayweather, Hatton, Cotto, Pacman... have all RECENTLY been on the cover. Those four are usually considered the other big names in the business. Perhaps a Hopkins/Calzaghe build up would have been an idea, but that fight is still a BIT away. I heard the idea of Vazquez-Marquez, but you have to remember that The Ring Magazine is generally late as hell. They probably hadn't even seen the fight by the time the magazine was essentially coming together. Perhaps they have, but I'm sure it was cutting close to the wire.

Oscar is still the biggest star in boxing. I don't see it as an OBVIOUS bad thing. This could be the sports biggest name saying farewell. If so, I think the cover can be justified, if the story is well done.

        Just my take.

Its probably to draw more casual fans in to buy it as they will have heard of Oscar, although i can;t read it cause i never see ti here in Britain so it don't bother me much tbh its just a magazine

Speaking of the The Ring.. I buy mine at a newsstand on Laurel Canyon at the intersection of Ventura Blvd in Studio City, CA, which is right over The Hill from Sunset, Hollywood. This is a HEAVILY trafficked newstand.. I was there tonight and NBC was doing a live broadcast for the local news.

I was there several weeks ago to pick up the issue with Pacquiao and Marquez on the cover at about 3am. While I was there I went into the Rite Aid drug store and ****in Britney Spears was in there with her goddamn mom, lover Adnan, and entourage. There were three helicopters and about 800 members of the paparrazi.. (The ****ers put some footage on that show TMZ the next day.. **** Britney Spears.. She exposes alot of people with her roving circus.. ****** *****! )

Anyways, when I went there tonight there were still lots of copies of the Pacquiao and Marquez cover.. Like ALL of them. I think I'm the only person within 50 square miles of one of the most densely populated cities in the world to buy a copy of The Ring..

At least I figured out why Pacquiao trains here. Nobody gives a **** who he is.. Nobody bothers him when he goes running on that Hill no less than a mile from that newsstand.. Wild Card is like a straight line from this area..

You ask if De La Hoya deserves the cover? I bet you it will sell out within a few days. Let's not insulate ourselves too much in our little Boxing world now.. Nobody gives a **** if Carlos Quintana or Nate Campbell makes the cover either, however deserving they may be, aiight?

            HaHA.. No, just kidding.

It's a valid question.. Oscar put himself on the cover! HaHA!!

It does look pretty bad.. Funny ****, C-Drone.

Oscar's last few fights are the biggest in boxing. You can definitely make a case for him being on the cover, although I think Rafa-Izzy should have that spot it is what it is.

I knew it was only a matter of time before the whole " GBP takeover" conspiracies started.

I Think There Could Be Many Other Fighters On The Cover, But To Ask If De La Hoya Is Deserving, Hell Yes. He's Done So Much For The Sport, This Is His Last Year So I Believe It's More Then Far, (except The Timeing Is A Lil Off). This Cover Should Have Gone To Marquez Vasquez, And Later This Year To De La Hoya. But To Ask If De La Hoya Is Deserving, You Should'nt Even Ask.

Straight up, I don't buy it anymore.

It's like 9 bucks! I'll stick to my 4 dollar GQ magazine and some chocolate milk.

It's already started. They just don't make it look too obvious. Hatton ranked number 8 by The Ring? That's sketchy to me.
