Short David Haye vs Enzo Mac Analysis

Lat night my freeview box managed to pick up Setanta for free, so i got to watch a few rounds of the Haye Mormeck fight. Ive seen Haye a few times in his early career at cruiser and snippets elsewhere. In the run up to the Maccarinelli fight i thought haye was gonna knock him out, simply because haye has been in with better opposition and is more skilled. But actually upon studying his skills quite closely its obvious he has 'Jermaine Taylor Syndrome'. The Symptoms being.

    1) Keeping the left hand so low its near impossible not to be hit by a right hand

    2) Allowing yourself to get backed up against the ropes too much

    3) Loss of Head movement

I can see Enzo winning on points in this fight, i hope im wrong, i want Haye to win, but haye's head movement is the boxing equivalent of cheese and pineapple on a stick.

Enzo can win by setting up the jab on haye and firing the right hand and hook to the body off it. Haye also tends to be quite flat footed when throwing his shots and also tends to be off balance, enzo needs to try and time haye as he plants his feet to set off a big shot.

Either way, Iv'e seen some flaws in Haye, maybe they wont get exposed tonight, but Enzo could win this fight because of his jab and workrate, Haye's stamina problems are well documented tonight.

Dont be suprised if Enzo wins by UD in a close fight.

Macca by his own admission has an “average” right. The low left won’t come into the equation tonight as Big Mac has an extreme bias for his left. But who knows, Enzo may have noticed this and worked on it.

Well said, TS. Haye indeed has a ton of flaws. He comes off balance when he throws his right hand, he's vulnerable to right hands, his stamina and chin are problematic.

I don't know enough about Enzo to say what his chances are.

Haye is like Taylor in a lot of respects. Taylor sets up punches much better and is in general faster and more accurate. Haye has equalizing power though. It took a gutsy fight and an excellent chin to dethrone Taylor. I don't know if Macca is the guy.

If he is smart he will, cos haye is seriously wide open for those shots, haye is one of those fighters who actually thinks they are better than they really are, he fires all sorts of shots flat-footed and when he isnt a position to do so. His defensive shell is poor because it covers the body and not the head, and his head movement is limited. He is a good althlete and has good reflexes for such a big frame, but im not sure about tonight. Mac needs to use the jab at all times to offest haye, because haye likes to develop a medium pace where he can wonder around the ring throwing combos from angles. Its hard to explain, but put it this way, Haye isnt the fighter he thinks he is.

The way i see it, haye has flaws (so does every fighter to a degree), but whether Mac is the guy to expose those flaws is another story.

Maccarinelli relies very heavily on the left jab- left hook to the body. He has no conviction when using his right hand. Not to say he can't trouble Haye, but it's unlikely.

Fighters who would matchup exceptionally well with Haye:

              1. Ruslan Chagaev: very difficult to hit with right hands, picks his shots better than anyone at HW
              2. Valuev: yeah laugh at this freakshow, but his chin, workrate, and stamina would be too much for the Gaye
              3. Ibragimov: I'd give Haye a chance here, but I think Sultan would stay out of trouble and win a very wide decision
              4. Wladimir: the best right cross in boxing would have an easy target
              5. Eddie Chambers: cautious style, pick his spots and hang around 'til Haye is out of gas
              6. Sam Peter: he's too powerful, and also technically tighter, if not as athletically gifted, than Haye

Top HWs Haye would match up well with:

              1. Povetkin
              2. Matt Skelton
              3. Oleg Maskaev

                1) Wladmir would knock haye out, simple as, no way can haye go 12 without taking that right hand, mind you, knowing wlad's chin. haye would deffo have a punchers chance.

                2) Eddie Chambers is more skilled than David Haye, i was so damn impressed by his defence against povetkin, but in that fight chambers proved he was dumb and couldnt stick to a basic fight plan.

                3) I would match up well with skelton, end of.

I was trying to be fair to Haye, so I was digging for names. But honestly Skelton is tough. I like dirty infighters a little, so I appreciate him.

I think Haye will knock Macca out.

Initially I thought it was a toss up.

But after rewatching a few fights of each, Fragomeni and Mormeck for Haye, and Braithwaite and Hobson for Macca.

Their two different classes of fighter aren't they?

Haye was very impressive going to the body against Mormeck who is world class. He controlled him on the inside, and he only got caught wit Right hands when he was Mormeck was too square on. Besides as has been said Macca is left hand happy. Haye got put down, but his recovery was impressive wasn't it?

Haye will land first again and again.

I like Macca alot so I hope it's a war. Haye is a better fighter though.
