When the truth is...he gave a fat,out of shape, ready to retire Lennox Lewis a good fight,in which he was bruised, battered and ripped up....and he lost.

Lemme ask you this...what would a prime Lewis have done to this guy?...or an in-shape Lewis, who was filming a movie in the middle of training?
I'll answer...he would have been laid out,and we wouldn't be having this conversation.

I think it's a shame whenever a fight is stopped due to injuries. I'm talking about WOULDA and SHOULDA won taht particular fight if not for the cuts.

A prime in-condition Lewis? Well he probably WOULDA knocked Vitali out late (or stopped him due to cuts).

As for Ali. Well go check some boxing litterature mate.

What would have happen if a prime Lewis was in there we dont know but we know that Lewis was all over the ring and hurt and lost atleast 4 rounds of the fight. Everyone is always talking on how Lewis wasnt prepared this and that but they forget that Klitschko also took this fight on a 2 weeks notice so he wasnt in shape or fully ready either? Should we all start crying about that?

Lewis was not ready to retire when he faced Vitali, he was in talks with Roy Jones about a big payday fight. Do you really think Lewis was ready to retire with a big win over Kirk Johnson?

Lewis would have fared better against Vitali in better shape but the fact is that he always had problems against guys with a good jab; Bruno, Mercer, even the much smaller Holyfield in their second fight. Combine that with Vitali's size, power, quick hands, durability when injury free, and counter right hand leads and you have a guy that is always going to trouble Lennox. Outside of that one uppercut, Vitali's movement and short counter punches completely took away Lennox's inside game.

Lewis didn't get dusted like he did against Rahman because he simply fought a better fight. He never dropped his hands, protected his chin, and held like crazy when he was in trouble. Vitali also deserves credit for continuing to push the action and win rounds despite suffering the gash over his eye and more troubling internal injuries from well what were clearly unofficial rabid punches from a desperate Lewis. Lewis also probably endured about as much punishment as we've seen from in a win. I'm not sure why this fight inspires so much hate on either fight, they both fought hard and made a good match of it.
