I have noticed though that the more times a lineal championship changes hands, the less credible the champion seems to be.
Follow the line of people that had the welterweight title... doesn't it seem to get worse every single time it changes hands? Something interesting to think about?

I think it has something to do with their popularity and because they couldn't establish themselves as great champions.
DLH was one of the biggest names in the sport of boxing when Mosley beat him so Shane became popular as well.
Mosley wasn't as established a name as DLH was and Forrest didn't get the instant popularity Mosley did when he beat DLH.
Forrest could've become popular eventually but he f***ed up when he lost two times to Ricardo Mayorga of all people.
Mayorga was popular because of his personality but he lost a total borefest of a fight against Cory Spinks.
Spinks beat Judah with a decision and became somewhat popular but lost by TKO to Zab in his own hometown after having flash entrances, rap musicians and stuff.
Judah was popular but he lost to journeyman Baldomir.
Baldomir was getting popular (because he was a huge underdog) but got completely schooled by Floyd Mayweather.
Now Mayweather is one of the most popular boxers and the man who will beat him will gain credibility for sure.
