Why does Sam Peter rabbit punch so much?

There's a disagreement on why Sam Peter hits his opponents behind the head.

Some say he doesn't do it deliberately, he is just unable to aim his punches and so they land there.

Others say he does it deliberately, because he's really not that good of a fighter and can't find any other way to win.

There's a good reason rabbit punches are illegal. Joe Mesi's brain injury was from a rabbit punch. Max Baer once killed a man in the ring, with a blow to the back of the head.

I'm a bit worried for old Oleg Maskaev, now in his 40th year. I have a feeling Peter will again resort to using rabbit punches, and Oleg may suffer a permanent brain injury as a result.

I think its because he punches in almost a chopping manner.
And a lot of his opponents, namely james toney, roll when punched.
And the back of there head is right there to be hit.

I dont believe hes thinking in his mind "im gonna hit him behind the head"

He's done it in every fight I've seen. He even KOed Taurus Sykes with a rabbit punch.

He was doing it the McCline fight. Dibella complained about it afterwards - Peter was warned by the ref several times, but not deducted points.

In both Toney fights, he kept doing it, and the refs were warning him but didn't deduct points.

And two of his three knockdowns of Wladimir were from rabbit punches.

I've never seen any boxer rabbit punch as much as Peter.

He does do it a lot.. but when Toney was complaining about it, Im pretty sure the ref said, hey, if your gonna roll down everytime he punches.. thats your fault then... but he does do it more than the average. I still dont think its on purpose.. I think its his form of an over hand right.

It was Toney's fault, and Wlad's fault before that.

Toney could have been deducted a point at any given moment in their second fight, and about half the time in the first, for consistently turning his head around and bringing it below Peter's waistline. That **** is annoying and should be penalized, but I suppose a good rabbit punch is penalty enough

What about the Sykes and McCline fights? I don't think Toney or Wlad were to blame. Their other opponents haven't been hitting either Toney or Wlad with a lot of rabbit punches.

I remember after the Peter fight, Wlad said on HBO "he was hitting me with blow jobs behind the head" lol

I agree with that, it is mostly poor fundamentals.

I really don't think that when he grabbed Wlad and spun him around so he could hit him in the back of the head, that that was entirely Wlad's fault. Especially when Peter is what, 6', 250+ lbs?

Peter is just an inaccurate puncher who clubs with his punches. I dont think its intentional, but still he should get warned about it more often. Just because its unintentional doesnt mean he should be allowed to keep doing it.
