Gary Shaw & Team Marquez Set To File Protest

    from: pound4pound.com

Moments after one of the greatest fights to close out a classic trilogy took place, Team Marquez announced through their promoter Gary Shaw that they would be filing a formal complaint with the WBC, citing the point deduction in round ten for a low blow. The Marquez team also expressed their displeasure with the called knockdown at the end of round 12, but it is not clear if that will be part of the so called "formal" complaint.

What is perfectly clear is that this great fight, which will always be looked upon as a classic now has the taint of a protest that many in press row feel is unmerited and uncalled for.

I don't see why Marquez and his trainer were crying about the knockdown in the last round. If it didn't happen, he would have gotten Tko'd.

There's no need for a protest.

      1) The referee had warned Marquez 3 times about low blows, I think he should have taken a point on an earlier punch but he was justified in taking the point away.

      2) The rules state that if the ropes are the only thing keeping a fighter fron getting knocked down, it's ruled a knock down.

I don't see what the protest is all about.

**** gary Shaw , He looks like Grimace from Mcdonalds. It was Shaw who laughed at Oscar De La hoya at the thought of protesting the outcome of Mosley De LA Hoya 2. Don't protest , ask for another fight and promote it the way it should be. Shaw is a promoter but who really cared for this fight besides diehard fans. Next time Shaw should so his best to put this fight on CBS like he did with MMA, maybe people will give a **** about boxing!

Great frickin post!! Couldn't agree more. I wasn't aware he had anything to do with the recent MMA debacle that is to air on CBS though. Interesting.

Sometimes, I wonder if boxing promoters really care about boxing. This fight would be in the 80's the highlight of the week. I give props for every single poster who gives thier opinion in this site, it gives me hope that I'm not alone in my love for this sport. I find it offensive that bowling , Nascar and beach Volleyball are featured on nbc or abc but Boxing is missing which is very peculiar to me.

There is a lot at stake Shaw is trying to do what he can for his team , he will fail but dont bag him for backing his man , its no different than any other high stakes pro sport , great fight and both are champs with Vasquez just that little better finisher and slightly stronger at the weight , I thought the verdict was a good one in a very close fight .

RodBarker - I don't really think Shaw lost anything in the way of having a great fighter to promote, it just seems like sour g****s to say I am filing a protest. It was what it was - a great close fight that went the other guys way. Set up IV and we will all want to see it. I think that is the way to go - not protest the decision.
