No way. Fighters are dead tired after 8 or 9 rounds. Look at Marquez tonight as a perfect example. Longer fights mean more punishment, which leads to worse head injuries.

Fair enough.
But then again, if the break was 90 seconds instead of 60, wouldn't that make it easier to rehydrate and avoid getting so tired and easier to avoid taking a beating?
How about 15 round fights with 90 second breaks?Comment

He was taking alot of shots as well. I dont see any need for either of them to take 3 more rounds worth of head shots (although there is no way Marquez would have seen the 15th round). I dont see what the benefit is of a 15 round fight.Comment

The benefit would be precisely as you point out; the stronger, better man will have time to press his advantages as the opponent gets sloppier.
We would find back to those marvel's we so much appreciate;
Marciano, Ali, Louis etc.
Those who use 5 rounds to measure, 5 rounds to pressure and then 5 rounds to exploit what they figured out in the first 5...
I got really excited when I pictured Hopkins in a 15 round fight against Taylor, Winky, Joppy etc etc.Comment

I'm basically indifferent to this.
I haven't seen any statistical data showing 12 rounds is really safer than 15 rounds.
As for tragic situations like Mancini-Kim, well, how do we really know that it really would've helped if it were 12 rounds? If it were 12 rounds, then the guys might've fought at an even faster pace in the last 3 rounds or so, knowing there was less rounds left in the fight, and Kim might have died then. Or let's say it goes the full 12 and Kim later on lapses into a coma and dies after the decision is read.
Kid Akeem Anifowoshe looked OK after 12 rounds, better off than Robert Quiroga, then after the decision was announced he collapsed and was fighting for his life shortly afterwards, and his death was most likely caused in no small part due to this fight.
The weigh-in procedures need to be fixed before the 12 vs. 15 round thing does.Comment
