Do not try to bend the spoon; that's impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth. There is no spoon. Then you'll see, that it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself.

The funny thing is, the guy who sweepingly dismisses a whole subsection of people as "thick" will likely do so in the belief that his judgement is completely factual and non-subjective.

But point taken. I dig what you're saying. What I was taking issue with is cursory, generalized snap judgements of posters or their points-of-view.
Too much subjectivity can be a bad thing, too. That's what I was getting at -- dismissing people before you even really know the extent of their "knowledge", based on what? A few buzzwords?

Considering what the buzzwords in this case are, its natural to assume they are used mostly by Floyd fanboys, and judging by the average IQ of the Floyd fanboy on these forums, it is both natural and fair to assume they are an idiot. This brings us to a reasonable conclusion that most people who use these words are idiots. I dont condone it, but it happens, and 99% of people who use these words have proven themselves to be an idiot on more than one occasion, so although I dont condone it I see no problems with drawing these assumptions.

i think this equation jumps a step. it goes 1+1=5. I agree that the buzzword language is most used by a particular group but I don't think that if a reasonable person uses one of those words in his post that they are automaticall a part of that group. It is a common theme among people using those words but it doesn't neccessarily mean you have a low IQ.

Thats my point, one or two reasonable people do use it, and they are not a part of that group, but the people who constantly use them, in every post, are mostly idiots.

I would rather ignore an intelligent poster because I thought he was an idiot than pay attention to an idiot because I thought he was an intelligent poster.

"Stans" isn't by any stretch a term used exclusively by Floyd fans. And how many Floyd supporters do you see rocking the "Life Style Flashy" line in all seriousness? It has become a tongue in cheek in-joke used to josh and clown by Floyd supporters and detractors alike for the most part, while the legitimacy of those "Floyd fans" who appear to use the line in earnest is questionable (parody profiles being rife here).

We all draw assumptions, to some degree. However, most of us keep our own counsel rather than ramming those assumptions down everybody's necks. And if we do voice our concerns, we know it's cool to do so in a respectful manner, so as not to appear every bit as hostile and objectionable as the people whose attitudes we're objecting to.
The bit I don't get is why it has to be -- "I'm the only guy who makes sense, me and maybe a few of my buddies, the rest of you are just ****ing idiots." That kind of attitude makes me think the bigger issue is with the complainant's ego and not the complaint he's making.

I was talking mainly about the "lifestyle flashy" crowd, and while they may or may not be joking, I do tend to find a lot of their posts to be nonsensical, and as such make a mental note to ignore them.

In this case, I think the satirical swipe Annie has made has been taken a little out of context, its supposed to be a joke. A joke which I do find to be quite funny...

                  You think?
If so, I agree that I might have taken the thread out of context, missed the layered subtlety of the sophisticated humor at work here.
As it is, without necessary enlightenment, it just reads to me a lot more like the latest gruelling reiteration of some larger generalized beef that !! Anorak has with anyone who doesn't meet he and his pals' exactingly high standards.
As satire goes, I've seen a lot better, more intelligently pointed and more entertaining, even on the internet. Like most of the parodies and attempts at satire here, it gets predictable and repetetive and wears thin very quickly, making it as tiresome in its own way -- perhaps moreso, by dint of being so full of its own importance -- as the stuff it targets.
The board needs some more incisive, talented satirists is all I can reply with.

It just goes back to what I said before. Intelligence is fine, as long as people don't get too carried away with their own belief of how intelligent they are.

I cant talk for Annie, but from what I've seen it's not so much a "beef" as such, more he enjoys poking fun at people who ARE less intelligent than him.

                      Ok, I understand.

But y'know, I took the same issue with a guy like, saaay, Dios. Though a 'nemesis' of !! Anorak, and much lower down the BS food chain (less friends, less long-term status etc), he had the same attitude of wanting to ridicule and belittle those who didn't meet his often sneeringly high standards. Like !! Anorak, he also had some interesting and valuable points of view, but, like !! Anorak, he couldn't stop peering down his nose at people long enough to communicate them in a consistently productive way.
In his own lounge, !! Anorak might make a whole world of sense and be the nicest guy a person could ever wish to meet for all anybody else knows.. but he brings precious little of that to NSB. Shame.
