You guys are really not looking at the big picture here. Whether we like it or not Boxing is now a tier two sport. Once Floyd is 35 or so he will not be able to make money by being in the ring himself any longer. It is hard to continue to make money on boxing after you leave the ring. Promoting is no gaurantee, just ask Lennox Lewis. Floyd has to get his cross over appeal now while he is hottest.

Floyd is a great fighter. The only question is how great. Anyone who says differently is just a hater and the opinion of said individuals is invalid.

Now what is in question is whether he is a pleasing fighter to watch. Depends. I like watching defense in its higher forms. Most of us don't remember Willie Pep but are you going to say he was not great due to his light fists and focus on defense. Heck no!

Cotto will be a good test. Never doubt the fight will come even if it takes longer then we wish. I just wish the sport had more marquee matchups to look forward to. Sanctioning bodies are the true devil that keeps quality matches from us.

really? there is a reason why he only fights in new york and on the eve of the puerto rican parade. He is not a household name with a huge following. Floyd vs a no name baldi did more ppv buys then cotto vs judah and mosley

If Floyd has no problem fighting a "no name" like Baldomir, why does he have a problem fighting with a decent name in Cotto? If Cotto can sell in NY, why not fight in NY then? Judah was a big name just in NY and Mayweather had no problem fighting him coming off a loss. Use some plain and basic common sense.

Maaaan..some of you dudes are reeeaaally buggin' for criticizing mayweather & his lil wwe venture. Im sure you die-hard boxing fans would disagree, but all that pride -ish dont feed your kids & hopefully their kids one day. 30mil to spar w/ de la hoya, 20mil to knock hatton silly (who by the way was supposedly being "ducked" by mayweather as well), and finally another 20mil payday to hop around a wrestling ring w/ big show. That's 70mil in less than a year. Who the hell wouldnt want to make 70mil in that time span..Matter fact who wouldnt want to make 70mil in any time span. This is the USA..its a greedy capitalistic society, and money talks..period. As for Cotto, everybody poppin' that "Floyd is scared of Cotto" bs. Why the hell would any top ranked professional boxer (esp boxing's p4p best) be 'scared' of another fighter?? If you think about it, that -ish sounds absurd. Not to mention, miguel (who is becoming a good fighter) doesn't have the skill set or physicality to beat floyd. Certain cats want to see mayweather humbled by defeat so much they're tryna catapult the first person in that spot w/ a decent skill set. Cotto is not too much stronger or physically imposing than hatton IMO. He goes to the body as well as anybody has in recent yrs but that tactic wasnt employed to perfection during the mosely fight who actually landed to the body better. Im sure the fight will take place in '09..once the $$'s match the hype. In the meantime, Cotto can pick & choose his opponents to keep that '0' in tact (like alfonso gomez is the no. 1 ranked fighter in the wba..pssyeah right). Every fighter picks & chooses at some pt (dont get it twisted).

Baldomir may have been a 'no name' but that same no name was the undisputed 147 champ at the time..so that fight make very good sense. As for the judah fight, that was more of a bail out once he lost to baldomir. Im sure everyone was so convinced zab would win, they didnt bother to line up any back up fights.

lately all i hear is that cotto is'nt pay per view status. so mayweather says. If Mayweather is money maker floyd & he has money burn. Why don't he stop using excuses about selling in pay-per-view & just fight cotto & prove he is the best. Mayweather last fights, Hatton good but not graet, Oscar good but past his prime, baldomir please.
