at first i thought this but as i did some research and found out stuff, HBO really doesnt have a choice.

Its either put these fights on PPV, or waste up massive amounts of their budget paying for those fights, and use up the entire budget by August.

PPV fights do NOT eat into the budget, but nor do the profits add to this budget.

You used to see these BIG fights on free HBO because PPV wasnt big and not many homes had access to it, and the Boxing budget was a lot bigger for HBO.

i mean i buy pretty much every ppv, but it gets rediculous becaue i always end up with a 160 cable bill. I mean I understand some fights, but come on dont try to sell us some washed up bums on the undercard and a boring ass main event. if i pay 50$ i want to see some title fights, not jeff lacy vs manfredo or ronald hearns vs a bum. at least build up a fighter like abner mares and berto. but ****in lacy manfredo, **** you HBO

It is getting to the point where we cant get a GOOD bout on without having to pay 50 dollars, and 35 to see Edwin Valero and JCC jr. I mean come on. I have bought nearly every PPV this year and this **** is getting expensive. I mean I got it, but do I really want a 160 cable bill every month? Mosley and Judah, come on they are both coming off losses. Cotto vs Gomez come on dude. And not only are we not getting title bouts on TV, we arent even getting good undercards. Maybe Im just rambling but I had to vent someway, somehow. Does anyone else feel this way?
to an extent i agree with you.

sometimes we get PPV fights that dont live up to the hype or amount of money spent.

look at winky wright v. hopkins. the fight was decent at best and should have been on regular HBO.

we do get some great fights on regular HBO like pavlik/taylor I; calzaghe v. kessler; margarito/williams; gatti/gomez. those were some very good fights on regular HBO.

we get hopkins/calzaghe on HBO which i was surprized by that one.
margarito/cintron and cotto/gomez is all on one card on regular hbo. i think thats a solid card and great for free HBO.

although cotto is a 10 to 1 favorite even if thats a bust we get margarito/cintron II to watch.

so its an iffy thing. sometimes we get bad PPV's but great regular HBO fights.

i order ppv's when i have money (right now im inbetween jobs) but when i work i buy the ppv's. when i dont have the cash i stream online.

i payed for cotto/mosley but had it taped for me (i had to work during the hours the fight was on) but i still payed for it an watched it when i got home.

so i support the ppv's when i can.

i dont like the idea of ppv's all that much because i dont think its fair. if boxing didnt screw itself by going to pay channels in the first place and still was on broadcast TV the advertising sponsors would be able to foot the bill for the fights...

imagine how much money they could charge sponsors for the big fights...

like if de la hoya/mayweather was on broadcast TV...advertising would be like the superbowl.

but for now its the cards we've been handed...

i hope someday they will do away with boxing ppv's or at least have fewer boxing ppv's...maybe 4-6 a year instead of like 1-2 every month.

No, not really, especially if there's people out there that will still buy a fight, and believe me, they do.
