Of course I know this. But some people might have different opinions ...
Like I'm expecting someone to say Floyd Mayweather ..
I can realistically say Floyd Mayweather... because I have only been a boxing fan for a very limited amount of time (a little over 1 year), and I have never seen Ray Robinson fight.
For me, it probably comes down to Roy Jones Jr. or Floyd Mayweather Jr., but I generally try to avoid giving my input on historical questions, because I am more than unqualified to give an educated answer.
Now if you asked who the greatest fighter was period, i would have to say Henry Armstrong. You cannot get better than a fighter that captures three belts in three different weight classes, all within a month.
Robinson wouldn't have been as great as he was without the power and speed he generated through his punching technique and the chin and heart he showed in his fights.
Even Robinson's pure boxing technique wasn't flawless.
But Robinson was the best boxer because of his great resume and how well he put all of his power, speed, technique and durability together.
It's hard to argue with great champions like Ali, Louis, Ray Leonard and Patterson saying he is the Greatest.
It's hard to argue with champions like Ali, Louis and Patterson saying he is the Greatest.
Don't forget Leonard...
He basically said something like the following:
"Someone once asked if there was any comparison between the Sugar Rays. Trust me, there is no comparison. Sugar Ray Robinson is the best the sport has ever seen."
That's a pretty powerful statement coming from an ATG.
