I don't see how Pavlik is undefeated. All he throws are basic 1-2's

I find it very interesting that posters on this forum consider Abraham a better fighter than Pavlik. Granted Abraham has some big wins under his belt, but just compare his last three oponents to Pavlik's last three and then tell me who's the better figher...

Yeah he throws that 1-2 quite a bit, but he fights his ass off for 12 rounds. I agree that he needs to go to the body more and that might be something we see more in future fights. He might come with the same combo quite a bit, but like other have mentioned it's worked for him. All three of his opponents ate that straight right of his last year and none saw the end of the fight.

It seems awfully harsh to call him a club fighter. He does have flaws, he is beatable and isnt knockout-proof. But he's very strong, takes a good punch, hits hard, has good stamina and above all he's consistent. Its not easy trying to fight him off for twelve rounds when he just doesnt stop walking forward throwing punches.

Wow! Speaking of underappreciated fighters, is Pavlik greatly unappreciated or what. The guy comes to fight every night both hands feel like right hands. Has the best ko% and is fighting elite, top 10 middleweights. Go figure!

Anyways, once this guys steps up against the likes of Jones, Kessler, Calzaghe, Wright, Abraham, Hopkins, etc. he will be badly exposed. You heard it here first.
Club fighters dont beat world champions. This aint Rocky....

he can almost outpunch his opposition 2 to 1 and he always comes forward. Guys getting outpunched 2 to 1 and fighting off their back feet don't do so well, even if they do land a solid punch every round.

If you think ALL he does is throw one-twos....then you'd lose to him too...

yes the bulk of his combinations are one-twos...but he has a great sense of timing...long jab...power..blocks up high for the most part...does throw hooks and nice body shots...

Mayweather for instance...throws mainly lead right hands and jumping in with left hooks...very basic right? well how is it that he is undefeated?...

there are more subtle things boxers do..and it isn't always just about WHAT you do...but more so HOW you do what you do...

Pavlik throws lots of hooks, throws well to the body and can mix up his punches well too.

The thing about his punches though is that his arms are real long and his hooks have a very small arch(unlike fighters with shorter arms, they have to arch their arms more for better leverage) so they sometimes like like an awkward straight punches. But make no mistake, he is very effective at it.

anyone who knows **** all about boxing knows that timing is just as if not more important than speed! sure pavlik is not the fastest guy around, but his timing is great which helps make up the difference. surely the thread starter must have known this elementary fact?

That is not basic at all, to come in well with a straight right takes a good deal of speed, timing and savvy. It may look simple but in reality as someone who boxed I can say that it is real hard to hide the telegraph on that punch.
