That's the reason he wanted to get the Oscar fight, sure it would be for money too but it was to get people to know him since casual ****** fans only give a **** about Oscar and nobody else AND get Mayweather to finally recognize him as the #1 contender. For some reason, beating him gets you known even though Oscar hasn't beaten anyone of note in what seems like decades. As for real fights, Gomez is just the warmup to unification. Since Cotto didn't get an Oscar fight, he'll go through the harder way by unifying and see if Floyd will finally decide to fight him. Cotto is essentially going to clean the division out to get his shot at Floyd Mayeather.

People wanted Cotto to fight Williams, and he was going to as the 3rd fight this year. Williams lost to someone Cotto beat and lost his title. That was their plan. Fight Gomez as warmup, Fight Cintron/Margarito winner to unify WBA/IBF titles, and get Williams end of year for his WBO. If he did all that, Floyd would have had to fight him for the Undisputed Welterweight Title. That obviously won't happen now but he can at least bring 2 title belts to the fold in a matchup with Floyd.

I think if you have to call out a fighter or insult him to get a #1 ranked fighter a shot for the title, that's pretty insulting, so I think Cotto doing it the harder way by picking up other fighters title belts like Juan Diaz has been doing is better for him.

This poster summed it up pretty well.

Personally, I would like Cotto to win. It's hard for me to go against him, but we won't really know what's going to happen until fight night. But Cotto should definitely get credit for his career, because it has been a good one and by far better than the one of Paul Williams (who was thought of as the #1 contender at WW over Cotto) and very close to the one of PBF. Anyone that bypassed Cotto and pick any other fighter as the #1 contender, obviously didn't give him credit for his career.

I meant in terms of making the weight, looking strong, fast, energetic, etc. Obviously he was not in the same league as Floyd, but he can beat or at least give a close run to PLENTY of people at that weight. Especially people who will trade punches like Cotto. I'm just saying I'm disappointed that he goes running off for easy fights, when there are great challenges for him at WW.

Men I hope they cancel the DLH vs PBF to settle this thing once it for all. It's Folyd wants to win the only chance he have is to do what DLH did aginst Trinidad, Fight the 1rst couple of rounds and Run the las half of the fight, I hope for the judges to give him the fight.Because if for some ****** reason he trades wih Cotto, he will get knock out!

That boy is just good. I think he beats Oscar, Cotto and then needs to hang them up. If his body is "breaking down" like he and his therapist claims, a loss is guaranteed if he continues.

                  EXCUSES....

He's 30 YEARS old. just did dancing with the stars fought Ricky Hatton and his participating in a "staged" wrestling match... you dont do all that if your body is breakling down.

If you think Floyd cant go toe to toe... you dont know what your talkin about...

U can all call me an idiot for saying this!

If Floyd decides to go toe to toe... its the last thing cotto wants... He will be picked apart amazingly... rolling off everything cotto shoots at him and catching blazing left hooks and right hands...

The hate for floyd blinds your sight of his skill..

Says who? Actually a person would and should do that if they body is breaking down. You get all the money you can get before your body is completely broke down. That **** is easy to understand. This is in no way saying that he shouldn't be concentrating on boxing since that is his true profession. I understand why he is doing what he is doing regardless of whether it is right or wrong.
