All catchweight fights well the big ones I mean are for a division title anyway , its still a fight under that weight " class " limit , who says you must weigh in at the highest possible weight for that class ,the weight can be negotiated just like any other part of the deal , you guys are not taking into account the differences in the elite fighters across a few divisions , lot of size here that catchweights even out somewhat , how can you say it does nothing for boxing , the huge fights we are talking about , no catchweight no fight , off course its good for boxing , it makes the fight happen and thats good .Comment

agreed. If the fighters can't agree on the weight then there is no fight period.

What good is it for two big names fighter to fight if one of them isn't at his best?
Thats where all the excuses come from. If you're in a weight class and there are good enough fighters there fight them.
If Mayweather wasn't around willing to fight smaller guys maybe we could've have the Marquez vs Pacquiao fight right now, with no excuses or Pacquiao fighting Victor Ortiz or any others top fighters in his division.
Guys moving up in weight is a great excuse to avoid fights.
If you beat the best then you can move. Mayweather moved up in weight when he was in the jr. lightweight division, but he didn't fight any of the current 3 champs in his division. Two of them were undefeated.Comment

And in any weight class, a fighter is free to come in at any weight UNDER the limit. Nothing would prevent Pac from coming in at 142 for a cotto fight, if thats where he is at his best. Just like he did in the DLH fight, which was contracted at the WW limit of 147. The difference with these bs catchweight fights is that you are dictating a weight to your opponent that is LESS than the max weight allowed in that division. Hops-DLH is a good example. Middleweight limit is 160, but DLH demanded (and got) a max weight of 158. How can a middleweight (160) title be on the line for a fight contracted at 158? Its ******ed. And how credible would it be for Pac to fight Cotto for Cotto's WW title at a catchweight of 143 or 144? It's absurd, and its not a true ww fight. But of course with the sanctioning fees involved, I'm sure the title would be on the line. And of course if Pac were to win, the headlines would read "Pac wins title in 7th division!!!" lololAll catchweight fights well the big ones I mean are for a division title anyway , its still a fight under that weight " class " limit , who says you must weigh in at the highest possible weight for that class ,the weight can be negotiated just like any other part of the deal , you guys are not taking into account the differences in the elite fighters across a few divisions , lot of size here that catchweights even out somewhat , how can you say it does nothing for boxing , the huge fights we are talking about , no catchweight no fight , off course its good for boxing , it makes the fight happen and thats good .Comment

Boxing is a business and the big name fighters call the shots and if they are smaller they can force a bigger fighter to come closer to them if they want the fight , its just smart match making in an extreme high stacks situation , I think its fairer in its essence and a sign of the times of better athletes spitting hairs to win I dont see why in this day and age tradition which is bull**** anyway should apply when this tradition was made when fighters could not hold a candle to todays best and tradition is still being met anyway , only with a clause to cover big size differences in the fighters , bottom line no catchweight no fight so I dont have a problem with it at all and I think we will see a lot more of it in the future .And in any weight class, a fighter is free to come in at any weight UNDER the limit. The problem though is that it gives no clarity as to who is the best in a given division. For example, who now is the best 140 pound fighter? Is it Manny? How can it be when he wont be defending against any other top 140 pounders? The only 2 fights that are being discussed for Manny are Cotto and Floyd, both at catchweights above 140. So how can you be considered the "best" at 140 if you have no intention of fighting in that division?
And as for your assertion that past fighters "cant hold a candle" to today's best, well that is just nuts. Duran at 135 was a monster and would have smashed Pac into little pieces.Comment
