  • Kelly Pavlik's Stock.

First, I just rewatched this fight and let me say it was a very entertaining fight and I saw Pavlik as the clear winner of a close fight. I scored it 116-112 upon review.

I think Pavlik's stock should rise after this fight. He proved a lot of things last night. He had never been past the 9th round and last night he went the full 12 and was the fresher guy at the end despite having a better work-rate. If you told me before the fight that it would go to the cards, I would have bet that Taylor would win, but Pavlik showed he could box strategically and patiently and that he is not a one trick pony.

Still, some may say his stock suffered because he failed to achieve the dramatic type of knockout for which he is known.

Now, if you feel that Taylor should have won or he was somehow robbed, fine, you're entitled to your opinion. But the fight has been scored and Pavlik has been declared the winner.

With that basis, what effect did last night have on Kelly Pavlik's stock?

Pavlik was going to have to fight past 9 rounds at some point. I agree his stock goes up cause he now has shown he can fight his fight for the full 12.

As far as failing to knock Taylor out, it was simply because jermaine fought a completely defensive fight from start to finish. Had this been a 15 round fight i have very little doubt Pavlik would have knocked taylor out before the end.

The guy is only 25 and is now 33-0 with two victories over the guy who twice defeated B-Hop. He also dominated Edison Miranda in one of the most one sided championship level fights of recent years. The sky is the limit for him, he is well on his way to putting together a HOF resume.

Good poll question. I was impressed that Pavlik could go twelve rounds and finish strong, but I also got the impression that he has limitations. He'll be a very good fighter, but I don't see him ever quite reaching "great".

Pavlik stock obviously rose after this win, but there is some weakness that an excellent boxer can exploit. (ie Calzaghe and Dawson) Jermain could of won that fight, if he had been more busy.

His stock is rising just like the number of idiots that don't know how to score fights.

It stayed the same for me.

He did pretty much what I thought he was going to do, I expected a late TKO or a decision win by outworking Taylor. The latter is what happened.

i think it stays the same.

It was never gonna rise in this fight unless he could get Taylor outta there in like 2 or 3 roudns, which was never gonna happen.

But now he can move on to fighting Trinidad and then Abraham and then other big fights and make his stock bigger and bigger and bigger

i think its about the same. He didn`t show me anything that i didn`t already know.

he has good power, decent conditioning but a weak chin.

Personally i think he is a little too easy to hit, his defence relies too much on backward movement and parrying. He has little to no head movement or lateral foot movement. I didnt really see him slip any punches to work an opening.

He's entertaining to watch and thats what matters.
