Cotto has called out Mayweather.
"He always runs [from me], makes excuses on why he shouldn’t fight Miguel Cotto. I'm here for the big names. If he doesn't want to fight me than I can do something else. I don't know," Cotto said.

Mayweather also discussed the possibility of a Cotto fight in 2005.
http://www.thesweetscience.com/boxin...yu-hoya-cotto/Gatti-Mayweather is the immediate plan. But Top Rank is taking a close look at this, and seeing this backup solution: Mayweather-Cotto in a pay-per-view clash this summer, instead of Gatti-Mayweather. Then, if Cotto wins, make a pay-per-view mega fight against De La Hoya in late 2005.
“Cotto needs a couple more tune-ups. Right now he’s a little too green,” Mayweather said.
Mayweather doesn't feel like Cotto is a big enough name now.
More important than that, he doesn't feel the fight makes any financial sense at the moment.
"I'm not going to disrespect Miguel Cotto. He's one of us; he's part of the family, the HBO family," Mayweather said. "As a businessman, I'm not going to put him down. That wouldn't be a smart thing to do. I want him to do well, keep winning and building his fan base. But the truth be told, he knows he can't beat me. He knows. Cotto's remedy to beat me is pressure, pressure, pressure. That's not the remedy to beat me."
Mayweather told McNeil that he's going to use 2008 to focus on his company, Mayweather Promotions, by staging boxing events and taking part in the music and television industry.Comment

"I never choose opponents. I never ask Bob (Arum). They always make the correct fights for me. I'm going to leave these things in their hands," Cotto said.
