First off, you don't beat Calzaghe by pursuing him.

I haven't notice Hopkins pursuing a fighter in a while!

I forget in which fight Merchant said it, but he said something along these lines.

"Hopkins used to be a tiger on the prowl, but is now a lion waiting in the weeds for his prey."

While all I seem to hear is everyone going on about Calzaghe throwing ten million punches a fight and Hopkins being able to dismantle and throw any fighter off his game, what I never hear is how Calzaghe is nearly as good as doing exactly the same thing that Hopkins, or his trainers, think will win him the fight.

Watch any Calzaghe fight and in most of them his opponents don't fight their fight. They also all say the same thing afterwards. That they couldn't get their rhythm with him and he really knows how to spoil their fight plan. This is what we are hearing that Hopkins will do to Calzaghes high punch out-put. I really don't think it will effect his out-put too much but Calzaghe will be in there doing the same thing as Hopkins does, which is to make it a scrappy, dirty affair and that won't help either fighter greatly because they are both so good at doing exactly that.

The only thing here is that Calzaghe has never been beaten at fighting his fight. Will Hopkins be able to spoil a spoiler to the degree that he takes him completely from his game? I don't think so. We will see though. Hopkins has a much, much, much better chance than most people here are giving him. Actually, I'm immensely surprised at the criticism and lack of support for Hopkins. He has as much chance to beat Calzaghe as Calzaghe has of beating him.

How in the hell would anyone's trainer "underestimate" Calzaghe.
