** I assume you are talking about cruisers and heavies here.

At any rate, I don't rate by build as those weights have a history of all manner of builds that are successful.

Billy Martin was a drop of the hat scrapper with a notorious KO punch of primed athletes who often outweighed him by 70+ lbs, even when decades older as an alcoholic manager. Young Billy wisely turned down offers to go pro knowing it's a different game in the ropes with gloves.

The only basketball player I'd give a chance with any real success is the late, great, Wilt Chamberlain. The guy was a one off physical phenom and original creative talent. He had enough cajones to actually get the great Cus D'mato to train him for a month in secret for a fight against Ali that never came off because of typical money squabblings. Cus rated Wilt highly and noted he wouldn't have wasted his time if he didn't think Wilt couldn't beat Ali.

Think they might have had trouble getting the bout sanctioned as well. No way was Wilt going to abandon his career to build a record just to fight Ali.

My pick would be Charles Barkley...he had a great heavyweight's build.
Not muscle bound body, but a great deal of just mass...and we all know he was tough. And how many bar-fights did he get into?...didn't he toss some guy thru a plate glass window?

Also Shaq...I would put money on him over Valuev right now.

Barkley yes, Shaq no. Shaq notoriously got his ass whooped by Scott Skiles. He can't fight and Valuev would absolutely destroy him.

Chuck can fight though, no doubt about that
