Why do Boxers Avoid Body Building?

bodybuilding is useless in boxing. Training specifically for something is the key. If you want to punch harder/faster then you train by punching and add cardiovascular work.
If you've ever watched MMA you'll see these big roid heads getting KTFO most of the time. They generally tire out after 1 round.
People see heavyweights like Tyson and think that lifting weights will make them explosive and fast.
Nothing can be further from the truth. Tyson is naturally 220lbs or so and is no bodybuilder. Ive seen guys who are naturally 170 who bulk themselves up to 200lbs. Its a good way to get your ass handed to you, because your fighting someone who is naturally 200lbs and doesn`t need 5 lungs to get enough oxygen in to support his (unnatural) muscle structure.Comment

When your calculating power, its mass times speed squared, you double the mass you will get double the power in a shot, but if you double the speed, the power is quadrupled.
Look at Kelly Pavlik, he looks like he needs a good meal at 160lbs, but **** can he ****.
Low weights high reps (e.g. hand weights) are excellent for power as they don't build muscle mass. The guy in the photo may be strong, but he would get his ass handed to him by a seasoned fighter (it looks like he couldn't wipe his own ass).Comment

Boxers, according to Mackie Shilstone, should lift heavy weights with few reps.
He trained Roy Jones when he moved up to heavy, and Hopkins when he went up.
I've got his book, Lean & hard, which is highly detailed on how to train and what to eat. I recommend it.Comment

TheManchine, that vid was a perfect example. The winner of that MMA bout was MUCH smaller than the other guy but dropped him due to his speed (and power). I mean, the other guy was looking knackered after just one minute of round one.Comment
