    Best Defensive Fighter Ever!

Who do you guys think is the best defensive fighter?

I cant think of anyone being better than Henry Armstrong although Pernel Whitaker might be there with him.

Right, him too. I guess its pretty hard to compare defense from different era's because obviously, the offense was different.

        There is alot of candidates.

James Toney, Winky Wright, Floyd Mayweather, Bernard Hopkins, Pernell.

Willie Pep - if you can win a round without throwing a punch, power to you.

I'd say right now it's Mayweather. All of the guys mentioned above got dropped in their careers other them Mayweather. He survived all kinds of styles and still never got seriously knocked down.

          From historical accounts, Willie Pep.

From fighters that I have seen, Pernell Whitaker.

but forreal i pick pretty boy floyd. he uses everything. his legs shoulders elbows head and upper body movement. and has great balance.
james toney and pernell were great on defense but they had balance problems which caused them to go down a couple of times. not floyd he
has every part of the game on lock

Agreed. Not only that but his defensive style will be studied for years to come. It used to be that young up and coming fighters tried to emulate Ali trying to dance around the ring using the jab or emulate Roy Jones. Now it's all Floyd, they know what's the most effective.

Young cats all over gyms try to do the shoulder roll although it's not that simple. It takes athleticism to be effective with floyd's defensive prowness as he is.

I never seen Pep fight, But I have seen Whitacker fight and I think he was the best defensive fighter I have seen to date. A young Camacho SR. was also pretty slick. Were talking defense in the sense of making your oponent miss. If its defense as to blocking shots and rolling with punches..PBF is very good at that, and so was Benitez

I thought Armstrong's offence was his defence. Pernell is definitely up there, Willie Pep, Bernard Hopkins, James Toney, Michael Nunn, Mayweather Jr. come to mind off the top of my head.
