    Paul Williams Will Be Back

Props to Quintana for being the first good, slick pro to bring out all of Williams' weaknesses. Having only a handful of amateur fights, Paul hasn't learned the craft like most skilled boxers (Cotto, PBF, DLH). He focuses on his offense too much, he doesn't throw all of his punches properly (instead of sitting on them he slaps) and he forgets to utilize head movement and feints on defense way too much. Quintana fought a perfect fight, and battered him throughout, but it was still a close decision. Paul showed a granite chin and a solid heart, as well as his trademark stamina.

Maybe he needs a new trainer, or to get back to fundamentals, I don't know. But he needs to work on sitting on his punches, throwing with proper leverage, ring generalship and forgetting about offense once in a while, because no matter how good a chin you have, you're going to lose on points by blocking shots with your face.

I still think Williams is the future at 147, this loss will probably be looked back on as a positive in his career. He has all the physical tools and intangibles to be a HOF boxer. But he has to learn the fundamentals at this point that he should've learned in the amateurs. Props to Quintana for fighting a perfect fight, and props to Cotto for having the right gameplan and attacking Quintana's body (even while dominating Williams in the middle of the fight he looked like he was going to quit).

Seriously though of course he will be back, I think he should move up in weight though and work on his defense.

Well at 26 and having not taken a huge amount of punishment and never having been KO'd, I have no doubt that he will be back. Weighing in at 164 this fight (the heaviest he has come in the ring at WW,) I have doubts that he can still make 147 for long enough to get another crack at a title (unless he gets a rematch) but as wide open as 154 is (except for Forrest, maybe Spinks) I think he still has a very good chance there.

I agree, but in his post fight interview he says he still wants to unify 147. So we'll see. There's a guy in mma (Corey Hill) who is 6'4" or 6'6" and cuts to 155. So I'm not sure the weight is as big as some think. I know in mma (something I'm more familiar with in terms of cutting weight) people re-hydrate 20 lbs easily and it doesn't affect them what so ever if their body is used to it.

if he never learns to snap his jab, he will never be back on top

the secret is out of paul, if youre willing to walk through his slapping shots you can land anything you want. margarito took 6 roudns to figure it out and quintana saw that and took advantage right from the start

if williams moves to 154 and throws that same weak jab those guys are gonna wade through it and blast his ass.

people keep calling for him to move up, but those are just people who havent done their research... i dont think williams is having any trouble making the weight, in fact if im not mistaken he came into the margarito fight at 145.5, not a sign of a guy struggling to make WW
