Cotto vs Gomez (the Hypocrite factor)

    Miguel Angel Cotto...

Fighter of the year for 2007, for the obvious reasons...He faced optimum opposition back to back to get his name on a certain list for greatness, (when did Mayweather do that? You don't have to answer, its irrelevant, so continue reading.) meanwhile, the "questionable Great modern name on that list," decides to take a break from the sport....

Cotto didn't rely on a "hyped up" fighter to generate his purpose (Hatton), he went after the most PHYSICALLY TALENTED to show his worth. He didn't pull any slick moves and go after a Baldomir type figher, (Margarito was the actual mandatory over Baldy for that fight, but I can't blame Floyd. if I had to choose between Baldi and Marg, I'd choose Carlos over Marg too =) ), he didn't choose a Gatti type figher, he didn't choose a Hatton smash down, and he didn't choose a Walk-a-thon with Oscar De La Hoya. He chose Judah and Mosley for his name-sake..

Sarcasm aside, Miguel Cotto has made his mark, and takin on Gomez when the Oscar stakes are on, when the Floyd stakes are on, and with Williams out there...If Floyd can reach his status as "the best" without fighting the physically talented, how and why is it a problem that Cotto is fighting one fight to stay active when all the major names are tied up? Cotto's already stated he's willing to fight Floyd and the fighters Floyd as avoided..

lol It's not like Cotto is fighting Gomez to find out who fights a older Trinidad, in wich the winner the will face Ricky Hatton or Kostya Zysu lol...

    I agree.
Look, I've been called a Mayweather nuthugger.
I think he is a incredible fighter. But this rematch with DLH is really kicking my ass.
I think Cotto has earned his shot. I WANT this fight to happen.
And Cotto is that dude. Gomez? He is tougher then people give him credit for.
Cotto is still gonna smash him though....

What's real hypocrisy is you not giving Cotto any slagging for fighting Gomez but you DO give Floyd slack for his opposition. Than you try to justify Cotto facing Gomez by using Floyd as an example? If you berate Floyd for facing someone like Gatti than you must do the same for Cotto, period.

I'll admit, I was one of the people that thought this fight was bull**** at first. Then I thought about it a little bit and realised that most of the top guys are locked up right now and Cotto deserves a lesser challenge now considering his schedule last year plus when he wins this fight, it's already in his contract that he fights the winner of Margarito vs Cintron.

what's fuuny about your post, is that you admit cotto has faced quality back to back oppostition like a judah, who floyd faced and mosley, which i can agree on, but mosley's bets days were well behind him(and this is the same mosley who ducked floyd publicly back in 06 hence the reason floyd fought carlos baldomir who had a lot of momentum at the time after beating zab judah coming off of a great knockout over spinks 2 fights prior, and gatti, who's best days were past him, the only difference is that baldi had not lost in nearly eight years before fighting floyd, and was the wbc ww champion and unoffical ibf ww champ.) i'm not knocking cotto or him fighting gomez, but i won't let you criticize floyd either, because it's bull**** and you know it.

Man, I bash Marge and all, but a Cotto vs Magarito fight would be kick ass!
I hope Marge isn't looking past Kermit though. Dude has knock you dead power.

                  Man... Great ****.
I like Cotto. Even if he is a Rican....
Damn. I thought 2008 would be the year to see Mayweather vs. Cotto.
                  Maybe next year.
(And I think Cotto beats whomever comes out of the Magarito vs. Cintron bout.)
As one of my esteemed posters have already said, Cotto is that ninja...
One of my favorites currently fighting.

Dont ever compare Gomez with De La Hoya, even at this stage Oscar wipes his ass with Gomez. People dont realise even now oscar can beat a lot of fighters, he loses to the P4P #1 in the world in a some what of a close fight, so ****ing what?
