He lacks the skill to be prepared for that. When he squares up with his chin in the air he's wide open and when he misses those cuffs/flurries/slaps he's wide open...

Popkins is 2-2 in his last 4 fights. Wright almost beat him, a smaller southpaw than Popkins.

Popkins is great in clinches but so is Calzaghe, but what about the time they're not clinching? All Popkins has there is the lead right, which Calzaghe will be well prepared for.

Never bet against Joe. You guys should learn by now.

Calzaghe has got a great D, even when he's wide open, his awkwardness makes up for it. You'll see.

It's not easy to counter an awkward fighter like Joe.

Calzaghe has always punched in the clinches, but these days there's nothing behind his left hand. I think Hopkins can rough him up with his head and shoulder and hurt his kidneys, when they aren't clinching you'll have Hopkins cutting the gap, timing him, measuring him, luring him, baiting him, etc etc, and Calzaghe, as always, will square up at some points, scuff and miss at some points, and Hopkins will make him pay every last time. Calzaghe has always eaten right hands, even Eubank landed loads of right hands and he usually never could land it against a southpaw, he'll eat more than ever against 185lb stronger-than-ever Hopkins

But this is Bernard Hopkins we're talking about here. Not Evans Ashira, Jeff Lacy, Sakio Bikia, Mikkel Kessler, or Peter Manfredo.

I agree, Calzaghe is somewhat vulnerable to right hands, but it's just not enough to beat him. Who isn't vulnerable to lead rights? That's Popkins plan, to make him eat those lead rights all night long, but even that becomes predictable to a fighter. Especially to someone like Joe who has great reflexes.
If anyone is going to be cut from a head-butt it'll be Popkins. And I'm not joking, both fighter tend to tackle with their head down but Joe isn't like Winky who keeps his head up-right, he's charges in with his head down and Joe is a little shorter than Popkins but he tends to charge with his head down prior to a combination. Expect a cut below B-Hop's eyebrow. This won't be a pretty fight, neither fighter has a pretty fighting style, but I'm 200% sure Joe will win and I'm great at predicting fights.

                **Question?
Would you put your money on Popkins?

To be honest, I thought if anyone could beat Joe, it would be Kessler, a young strong guy with great stamina and a great right hand as well.
I can't see Popkins doing anything more special than Kessler besides roughing him up here and there, which won't do much for the judges because Joe's work-rate will put a shadow over that.

I'd put money on the Hopkins who fought Tarver.

But I have a feeling he's just too long in the tooth now - three years on from the Taylor defeats, only three fights in three years, and 43 years old.

But the Hopkins of five to seven years ago basically beats up Calzaghe.

Why do people always say that as a fact? Isn't that just an opinion, and didn't Hopkins pretty much cancel the fight when it was made a few years back?
