    Hatton's Life Story

Just watched most of Ricky Hatton's life story which was just shown on uk tv.

    One thing really struck me.

I cant help but think him living up to this 'man of the people' incarnation is actually affecting him and his boxing. The thing which got to me the most was that in the run up to the mayweather fight he was watching a video of friends, family and celebs wishing him well and telling him how much they wanted to him to win, the guy must have had a serious amount of pressure on him. I cant believe he was allowed to see that, because i could see it was making him emotional and he had a huge task in front of him already, he didnt need most of the UK telling him they expected him to win, its just adds to the burden. He had Pressure to win, Pressure to be enteraining, Pressure not to let people down, Pressure to show his fans his apprieciation for coming to see him fight.

Look at what happened after the fight, the guy was very emotional, nearly cried during a post fight interview with sky sports news because he thought he'd let down all his fans. Some say that played a factor in the amount of drinking he has been doing of late.

When you go into a fight with mayweather, you need to be focused and single minded, you gotta have tunnel vision, you gotta fight for yourself, it seems like Hatton was fighting for himself, his family, his fans, his country and his image. In future i think he needs to take some time out and lessen the burden on him a little because it clearly made him overexcited, overemtional and possibly even overtrain in the run up to the mayweather fight.

If anyone else saw his Life Story, please feel free to add comments also.

All valid points, but that video from friends and family was shown to Hatton before the castillo fight.

I haven't seen the story (American) but I'd love to. I don't think there's any question that Ricky is put under a microscope and has an enormous amount of pressure on him to be "the people's Champion" first and a boxing Champion second, when it should be the other way around.

That said I don't think the pressure is what caused his loss to Mayweather, Mayweather's just an amazingly gifted fighter. No doubt the pressure had to be on Ricky's mind when he stepped into the ring but it was only a small factor, he was simply outclassed.

That said, best of luck to Ricky and I can't wait for him to make a comeback. He's won over quite a few American fans with his wit, humor and fighting ability, myself included. I'll drink to Ricky any day of the week.

i think one of the main reasons this fight captured the Hearts of the nation was parlty down to Ricky being a popular fighter in this country but mainly because of Floyds Eccentric behavior ,the media in this country love Eccentric type of charachters[Jose Mourinho] because of the great sound bytes they get in interviews, this in turn only has the desired effect on the general public what with Floyds ****y brash abrassive attiude all of sudden they just want to see this ****y Floyd Mayweather get KTFO ,before u know it the fight is an event that no one wants to miss

24/7 Obviously paid a huge part but if it was'nt for Sky Sports coverage of the fight i dont think it would have been as popular as it was ,people tuned into 24/7 because of the coverage the fight got on Sky Sports

IMO this fight made Hatton a 100 times more popular in this country win or lose he has reaped the benefits financially cause his pofile is sky high home & abroad ,he is probably the most popular fighter since Frank Bruno as a figure for Boxing

I would love to see that story. Hopefully Hatton will be able to recover. He is king of 140, the greatest at 140.

                  Hatton wonderland!

Might be the greatest quote in boxing history.
