as for the thread williams will get at shot at cotto but that is IF both comes victorious of their next fight, cotto winning in july, and mayweather winning the de la polla fight which means floyd da ***** ain't fighting nobody so if cotto/williams happens it would be either late 08 or 09.

Cotto has won me over somewhat, especially with his performance against Mosley. He showed he has dimension, he can box, avoid when needed, and really compete with the upper tier of the Welterweight division.

But there's just something about Paul Williams that makes me think the dude is damn near unbeatable. It probably has something to do with the 82" reach advantage and the fact that he can outwork damn near anybody in punches thrown and punches landed.

I'd edge Williams by a decision. I just don't know how Cotto would manage to overcome the monsterous disadvantages in height and reach.

Williams is a very busy fighter and would probably win the early rounds. The problem is he doesn't have enough raw power to stop cotto from coming forward. Cotto catches up to him in the later rounds either wins a unanimous decision or KOs him late

Mayweather may or may not allow these two to duke it out to see him. I bet he's smart enough not to do this. He's less likely to have difficulty with Cotto. At the very least he knows what he's getting, Williams' range on the other hand could play out a # of different ways.. Cotto although possibly inferior to PW is the safer choice, less unknown variables.

Mayweather is going to have to put up or shut up at one point down the road, if Oscar beats him then most likely he makes the trilogy but if Floyd wins he has to decide to either retire or defend, if he retires which would be dishonorable because he wont give the proper chance to someone by winning the title by fighting for it he will forfiet the titles and then they can just fight for it and Floyd will fade away and if he continues to fight he has to face a legit dude. either way his time is ticking and if he don't fight at least twice this year then he's no longer #1 pound for pound, Miguel Cotto might take that title if he can remain undefeated after all the tough tasks that await him for 2008, either way there will be an undisputsed champion for 2009 regardless who Floyd decides to fight.

Guys, Cotto-Williams will not happen for a LONG time ( one year and a half most likely ) because Cotto fights Gomez in april, Marg in summer, and his MANDATORY nushrenko or w/e the **** hes called by the end of the year, he HAS to fight him WBA ordered him to.

If Cotto gets by Margarito, I see Arum waiting out a while to get the Mayweather fight. Fight Williams then would be like giving 20 milion dollars away.
