What style is Jermain Taylor good against?

    So let's see...

He gets razor-thin decisions over defensive fighters in Hopkins and a draw against Wright.

He actually looks halfway decent against a volume puncher in Ouma, but clearly not as good as he should have against a 154 pounder who doesn't have a lot of power.

He looks fairly bad against Spinks, and even loses a scorecard, which has been endorsed by more than a few good posters on here.

And then finally, he gets a toe-to-toe fighter that is made for his style, and he finally ****ing loses by KO.

Is Taylor's forte knocking out lower-level competition? I mean seriously, can this guy actually be considered elite if he loses to Pavlik in the rematch? He hasn't looked better than average against any elite competition, and he has had 7 tries after the rematch.

    Thoughts?

Tbf he took consecutive challenges one ofter the other, Ouma was a previous 154 pounder he was just doing what Hopkins did and fighting a 154 pounder who was more of a challenge that most of the middleweights out there. Few fighters have looked remotely good against Spinks really. He didn't have to take Hopkins on a 2nd time after the thin decision but he did. When has anyone looked good against Wright as well?

I think he would destroy a come forward brawler someone who has a similar style to Mayorga.

Not too mention he then took on Pavlik the no. 1 contender who was a previous unknown to most of the boxing community just a few months ago.

i still think pavlik is going to be the fight he looks good againts. up to the knock out part he was doing a good job. i think if he doesnt go crazy when he gets pavlik hurt and takes his time with him, he can get him out of there. maybe he can use his skills a bit more then put on the attack he lead round 2 with latter on in the fight come rematch time

Yeah, but how good is a fighter who's highest hope in boxing is to be a Ricardo Mayorga killer?

I know all those fighters are not easy to look good against (except for Ouma, which means he blew that opportunity), but Jesus, he didn't even look good against Pavlik.

Basically that means (if the rematch confirms it) that he is not even the best at what he does (style-wise) in his division. That is a real bad sign for a boxer.

It is okay for Bernard Hopkins to take a backseat to Floyd Mayweather in the defensive fighters category (or vice versa, if you want to argue that), but if they were in the same division, Bernard would be ****ed... who wants to watch a fighter who isn't even the best at their game plan in their own division? That's where Taylor is at.

he is a fighteer that likes to control the centre of the ring with his Left Jab & does'nt like being backed up ,he cannot fight at a pace he likes to control the pace so he can use his punch selection

he looks great against Inactive fighters & 154 pounders

And I'm really worried that that is going to be the extent of his career if he loses this rematch.

I think Taylors talent has been to fight hard when it counts and thats what got him where he is today, but vs a fighter with power and chin his ablility to try hard is just not gonna work in his favor every time out, also I will say that he is always way too intense and thats why he has stamina problems.

none, he's slow and dumb on his feet and he has zero basics for smart offense and defense....

but he's a big guy with very decent power, good handspeed, a lot of toughness and pride............

i like the guy a lot...
