Side note: I laughed my ass off during Williams's entrance against Pakau, because Lampley kept getting Williams confused with Sharmba Mitchell, because Williams had just beaten Mitchell...

He ended up saying, "There's a lot of excitement about Mitchell."

At that point in his career, there was NO excitement about Sharmba Mitchell.

I am so ****ing lame sometimes, like now.

I love him when he was running after margo's ass while margo was in turn running after PBF. He finally caught up with margo and that was just the beginning. He missed his chance against kermit but maybe some other time.
And THAT is why he is overrated.

Because people are acting like he is an established badass who is taking over the sport like it is nothing, when he really only has beaten one legitimate fighter.

That seriously does make for the most entertaining fighters... fighters who throw a zillion punches and can't hurt anyone.

Because they usually beat some dude up for like 9 rounds before the corner throws in the towel.

Juan Diaz and Paul Williams really are great for the entertainment value of the sport.
I think that remains to be seen as far as PW goes. PW was pretty exciting against the undefeated Mathysse (who has sense been exposed for what he really was) and the washed up Mitchel (but who hasn't looked excititng aganist him?). Against Maragrito, PW's first and so far only real test, both fighters were barely entertaining, at best. And Margarito's legacy, if you can even call it that, is still very much up for grabs. He needs to KO Cintron again, and impressively, to move up to the next level.

So, in my opinion, PW has much more to prove before I can say he is or will be anything for boxing. He hasn't done anything.

But the biggest reason we know PW has not reached the "entertainer" level yet is he can't get a big fight and he can't get a PPV date. Too much unknown risk and NO REWARD.

Exactly... that is all I'm saying.

Overrated doesn't mean he sucks, because that seems to be the general tone of most of the responses on here. It just means he is very unproven considering what people are saying about him.

and agree. I think he has already shown enough to determine that he doesn't "suck" but that is a far cry from establishing himself as a great or even good fighter.

the meaning of his win over margarito (if it can even be called that, many people don't think he won) is yet to be determined by the quality of the future fights of both fighters. in my mind, margarito is only SLIGHTLY more proven than is PW. both will either be proven or exposed within the next two years.

my guess is that both fighters will go down in history as as good champs but neither will be recognized as "great". we'll see ......
