A great fighter can even win when he is out of his prime, etc. You get what im sayin bro?

Prime RJJ is a trouble against anyone, and he would have beaten almost any middleweight ever, You name it.
How was Hopkins far from his best against Taylor, when ALL of his biggest wins came after the age of 36? I haven't seen the second yet, but in the first Bernard didn't do a single thing to try and win any of the first 9 rounds, then dominated the last 3, so to call it a gift is inaccurate.

Roy wasn't in his prime at 160, but Bernard wasn't yet either and they were both at the same stages in their career so it evens out. I merely pointed out Roy because you mentioned the Leonard loss. Had Hagler, who was past his best at that point, not gotten completely screwed in the negotiations for the fight (24 ft ring, 10 oz gloves, etc) he would have faired better.

Duran = Lightweight and Hagler won a very close decision
          Leanord = Welterweight..Oh well...he lost that fight
Hearns = Welterweight, the best win of Hagler's career

Would Antonio Tarver be one of those "smaller opponents"?

People will always hate great fighters. There is no way around it, unfortunately. Some people will nit pick certain fighters for whatever reasons and attempt to discredit them. Most of them, probably never fought a day themselves.

And for the record there isn't a single fighter that lived who wasn't criticized, in one way or another (Ali, Robinson, Hagler, et al).

Hopkins is one of the best middleweights of all time. No question about it. Not better than Hagler or others, but he is certainly one of the best ever and hall of famer. Just look at his accomplishments inside and outside of the ring. Sure you can nitpick Trinidad and ODH, but lets not forget they had to make weight, they agreed upon the weight, and we're talking 5-7 pounds or so (AND they had prior fights at the higher weight before hopkins). Mayweather beat a bigger man, it can be done. Same with Ray Leonard, he beat a number of fighters "naturally" bigger than him.

Hopkins KO'd trinidad. KO'd ODH. I don't give a **** who you are, to be the only man to KO two legends is impressive.

To be honest you could say the same about Winky Wright though....

Or any fighter for that matter (except Ali)

I've seen people say that about Ali. You can discredit ANY fighter ever.

                      Ali's career was a farce.

He lost to Doug Jones and was awarded a "win."

He lost to Jimmy Young and was awarded a "win."

Joe Frazier knocked Ali flat on his back--and according to the media it never happened.

Ali is the only heavyweight champion in the history of boxing to lose his title to a novice who had only seven fights (Leon Spinks).

Ali struggled for 39 rounds with mediocrity Ken Norton and still hasn't beaten Norton.

Ali won his title on obvious fixes with Liston.

Ali needed extra time between rounds after 185 pound Henry Cooper knocked him down.

The second "fight" with Spinks was an obvious phoney, with Spinks showing up drugged and disoriented
This is a post I found in another forum.
