How do you ppl honestly believe he earned a shot at cotto(payday wise), when the last two opponents of gomez were two boxers who came out of retirement to fight him. Didn't Ben Tackie and Gatti both come out of retirement to fight Gomez? He beat retired fighters, and he looked so terrible against Ben Tackie and his excuse was that his hand was busted up.

for some reason I think he is going to beat cotto. there is no explaing this thought. Not saying gomeez is better because he is not but i think i might bet 20 to get a big pay day back, and if im wrong hey i only lost 20 bucks.

gomez is game, but if he continues to run his mouth all he is gonna do is make cotto get rid of him in earlier fashion!

Am not even going to say anything anymore about this fight, I think its a poor fight to make and Arum is a con-artist who too many fans on these forum is too quick to believe because he promotes Cotto (their favourite fighter).

Please dont lose your money, Cotto might just let him stay in there for the whole 12 rounds because he knows people think the fight is a mismatch but dont think gomez would get luck, Gomez doesnt possess the kind of power to trouble Cotto AT ALL.

I can't see anything outside of a violent, humiliating loss for Gomez here. He's way in over his head against Cotto, a young punishing fighter who just takes your heart.

Cotto is the new king of long, sustained beatings following Tito Trinidad and Julio Cesar Chavez. Cotto is going to bust up Gomez's face and the body shots will sap any pretenses of will out of him. I don't see this fight being very competitive or going past 8.

Cotto has too much heart to be beaten by a Gomez caliber fighter, IMO. If Cotto does lose, it'll be to a higher caliber fighter who really has the goods to put him away.

Guys, a Cotto-Gomez fight in theory is nothing new in boxing. For many years, superstar fighters have been given breaks in between mega fights with bouts known as TUNE-UPS. They feature superstars against contenders (no pun intended) vying for the spotlight and a paycheck. This fight is in the same vein as that. Gomez "earned" this opportunity by being 6-0-1 in his last 7 fights, the last 2 being broadcasted on major networks. Also bare in mind boxing isnt just wat goes on in the ring between fighters. Financially this fight makes sense for all parties involved, and also allows not only Arum but also Cotto the safe opportunity to keep Cotto active, pending a mega fight with the Margarito-Cintron II winner. Now dont get me wrong, Id love to replace Gomez with Mayweather, Williams, or Cintron, or even a Clottey or Bonsu, but boxing is not 100% tailored to the wants of the fans. It could be worse. We could have had Cotto side-lined until the mega fight, like our P4P King is for his. Lets just appreciate that we get to see Cotto continue to display his craft for us. This is just my 2 cents. I know boxing.
