He should wait till he gets to atleast 20 fights. He showed that he is too raw yet. He will get destroyed and that may be the end of him. Give him a year or so to improve...

Povetkin has too many flaws to fight the caliber of Wlad. He must invite an American trainer to help him with his movement, defense, and conditioning. Why shoot for Wlad right away? He has built enough momentum to get a title shot at any of the current title holders within a year.

I wasn't too impressed with Povetkin. Look how many times he got hit flush in the face by a pitty pat Heavyweight. Just imagine Klitschko's right hand going through to his head...early KO.

Assuming Wlad gets past Sultan which he hasn't done yet.....No Povetkin should not fight him yet. But then again how do you pass up a shot at the HW championship when you get it.

I don't see why not. He is 28 years old, he is in his prime right now and there isn't a fighter out there who's style will get povetkin ready for klitchsko. I think the povetkin in the chambers fight is as good as it gets. He should fight wlad next. or if he should fight anyone before wlad it should be Alexander Dimitrenko(27-0) who is 6'7 and is the closest thing to wlad there is, which isn't that close.

He shouldn't, but he's going to face him anyway.

                  Thank you...

Finally someone said it. This is the second thread I'm reading about Povetkin / Wlad, while Wlad has a unification fight scheduled in less than a month.

How can everyone decommission Ibragimov like that?

Where is the thread should Povetkin fight Sultan, shall he get by Wlad?
And the answer is an obvious "YES"

He has beaten top contenders as well.
Why should he take a step back?
Wlad is hardly a Super technical Boxer either and without his physical advantages would never be where he is today.
He has also lost to far inferior Technical fighters than Povetkin.
wlad is very technically sound. throws everything correctly and is one of the very few heavyweights that have ever been able to hook off the jab. he also moves well for a big man. 2 of his 3 losses have been due to fatigue from simply not pacing himself. he seems to have matured and learned his lesson. povetkin needs more time or he;;l just end up to be wlads 46th knockout victim ( assuming he kayos sultan). also,,,,wlad is undefeated against bigger men 3-0 ( wolfgramm,,,mccline....derrick jefferson) so that physical advantage comment doesnt cut it

Povetkin is not ready for Wlad. He should take two fights against big heavyweights first: Dimitrenko and Golota would be perfect, and then perhaps fight Wlad in 2009. I can't imagine him winning then either, but at least he'd have a chance.

Boxing2005's suggestion of Povetkin working with an American trainer is a good one. Someone like Jeff Mayweather would be perfect - he's done a great job with Sultan, making him into a more complete fighter. Because Sasha's has more talent, the results would be even better. Povetkin's current limitations are the result of the limitations of his training - Mayweather could teach him to be a better defensive fighter.

But according to a story on a couple of boxing websites, Wlad has plans to fight Thompson first if he defeats Sultan, and he is also targeting Chagaev. This would give Povetkin some much needed time to prepare, unless the IBF strips Wlad of his title for not fighting Sasha first.
