One of the judges who declared the bout a draw scored the first round 7 to 10. This was an error, since with three knockdowns the round had to be scored 6 to 10.. Doesn't this mean that in actuality Pacquiao won the first fight. I realize the record books will never show this but shouldn't boxing fans view the decision this way?

in my opinion the scoring system of fights needs to be reviewed, as cases like this fight highlight. i fail to see how a fighter can win basically 10 rounds of a fight and get a draw....? admittedly he was knocked down 3 times in the first round, however that shouldn't constitute a 4 round differential imo. does nobody else agree with this? it just doesn't seem right that a fighter can recover and outbox his opponent for effectively the whole fight and not be rewarded with a victory -
The judge didn't HAVE to give the round 10-6, although he admitted afterwards that he should've. There is no regulation that requires a point to be deducted for every KD, merely that the winner of a round must get 10 points (hence the name: 10 point must system). You could score a round 10-1 if you want, even if it's a close round where no KDs occur. It's all arbitrary. One of the judges who declared the bout a draw scored the first round 7 to 10. BTW, I had JMM winning 9 rounds in that fight which, IMHO, meant he should've won the fight.
We'll see how the rematch goes, but I've got my money on JMM to win.Comment

EXACTLY PACMAN HAD ONE GOOD ROUND THEN GOT COUNTERED AND BACKED UP ALL NIGHT MARQUEZ WAS ROBBED THATS HOW I FEEL PAC HAD ONE GOOD ROUND YOU DONT WIN A FIGHT ON ONE GOOD ROUND.....HE GOT SCHOOLED IN MY BOOKin my opinion the scoring system of fights needs to be reviewed, as cases like this fight highlight. i fail to see how a fighter can win basically 10 rounds of a fight and get a draw....? admittedly he was knocked down 3 times in the first round, however that shouldn't constitute a 4 round differential imo. does nobody else agree with this? it just doesn't seem right that a fighter can recover and outbox his opponent for effectively the whole fight and not be rewarded with a victoryComment

yeah you dont have to score it a 10-6 round and it all depends on the severity of the knockdown(s)Comment

but he almost knocked him out and the fight was almost stopped. if the 3 knockdown rule was in affect he was done. plus pac was green. in the rematch he wins.Comment

yeah sure i appreciate that mate, but more often than not a judge will take a further point for each knockdown....
it just seems unfair on the fighter who makes a comeback. should he be penalised so heavily for 1 poor round?Comment

Maybe he had JMM winning the first round despite being KD 3 times.....
Anyway I actually think a draw was fair JMM pretty much owned Pac the rest of the fight......with the exception of a few moments of course.I also could see Pac winning closely. Either way JMM will not be KD 3 times in the first round this time and will win a fairly comfortable decision.Comment
