You can only rely on a win for so long. His record at JWW since then doesnt sugest he's the best fighter at 140. So he needs to prove it imo with these last few fights.
Ricky Hatton was not for real

He's just too small, Collazo was 162 that night. I do agree that if he were at Welterweight he'd lose more than he'd win against the top 10.Comment

Could have? All Hatton has done his entire career is cherry pick fights. The only fighter he didn't hand pick is Mayweather. He did that only for the money. His 2 other toughest fights were also handpicked.
He waited for Tszyu to be at his absolute worst before enforcing a mandatory position he had been holding. As everyone knows, Tszyu was coming off injuries and a long stretch of inactivity. Tszyu was so past his prime that he retired after this fight.
Collazo was another tough fight for him, but this was a case of cherry picking gone bad. Hatton figured Collazo would be an easy win because he was the worst titleholder at welterweight. Little did Hatton know that welterweight isn't full of bums like 140, so Collazo gave him the fight of his life and he was lucky to escape with the win. If the current crop of titleholders were holding the belt at the time, I guarantee Hatton never steps foot in the welterweight division.
You are right and even Hatton's former promotor according to his blog agrees that they waited for the correct time to take fights, here is what he said:
HATTON'S UP AGAINST IT

It's been a huge year for British boxing - and there's another massive fight next weekend when Ricky Hatton takes on Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas.
I hope for British boxing's sake that Ricky wins, but he's really up against it when he challenges for the WBC welterweight title at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas.
In Mayweather, 30, he is facing is a fighter in his prime and one of the best boxers in the world at the moment at any weight. He's won world titles at five different weights.
True, Hatton, 29, scalped Kostya Tszyu to confirm he belongs with the best, but I always fancied him to win because I felt the Aussie was there to be beaten.
Injury prone, ageing and inactive, Tszyu was always vulnerable against a fighter who could fight on the inside with a high work rate. He was made for Hatton.
That was probably Hatton's last really good showing, Ricky himself said prior to the Castillo fight his performances were well below par as he failed to look the part when he beat Juan Urango, Luis Collazo and Carlos Maussa in three consecutive world title fights for three different belts.
And while everyone is raving about his last win, over former world light-weight champion Jose Luis Castillo, he was a shot fighter. Hatton caught him with a great body shot, but Castillo definitely looked for a way out.
The Hitman won't find things so easy against Mayweather, the first world class fighter in his "prime" that he has faced.
Unless he has a lot of movement when he comes forward, he'll get picked off by the Pretty Boy, who is an excellent sharp-shooter with lightning fast hands and footwork."
Hatton is too 1 dimensional to ever do well vs. skilled boxers or those who are stronger than him, so it made sense to feed him 40 some odd bums to stuff his ego and make him think he was better than he truly was. When he fought a skilled boxer like Collazo that he should have lost to, you saw how scared they were. Don't even get started with those excuses, how many can you possibly have?
Head cold or chest infection for this fight, only supposedly "4 weeks" preparation he will do better with a full camp for another, and so on. Well, he had his full camp and he got axed. Now it's "he was never a welterweight". If he is such an "elite" fighter, why are so many excuses made for him? The nonsense to not fight Witter, just so ridiculous.
I still laugh from seeing Billy Graham say "Let him think we're 1 dimensional..let him think that". Yeah, we don't have to think that Billy ole chap, anyone with a ****ing brain ALREADY KNEW IT.

I agree with your points about Hatton.
However, Hatton fought a terrible fight on the night. He played into Mayweathers hands, head hunted, didn`t throw any body shots, smothered his own work and generally looked like crap. The referee did not help either.
All that being said, I dont think Hatton would have won anyway, but could have given a better showing of himself.Comment

Ricky just got beat by the better fighter that night. Most people that face Mayweather don't look like the real deal after they face him.Comment

from what the few fights of zoo i have seen, i never really rated him as highly as many do. hatton had to cheat all night to win that fight. since then what has hatton actually done at 140? yeh he beat castillo, but he could barely even move round the ring lol.
team hatton have carefully picked his fights thats y he got the record he has.
hes not the best at 140. if hatton steps up and takes on all challengers he will lose to a lot of em.Comment

I know what he did in that fight so do many other boxing fans...But to say Hatton was built up, You dont know **** either..I guess your just trying to score some points..Comment
