If the net were around in the early to mid 80s, holmes would have been crucified on message boards for not rematching spoon, weaver, and norton, giving up his wbc belt by not fighting greg page, never unifying against wba champs like tate, weaver, and dokes (i left out coetzee because that fight was at least signed i think at point before it fell apart), for defending his belt against guys with 15 or less pro fights 5 times in a 6 fight period, and then trying to tie rocky's record by fighting a light heavyweight.

I honestly though PBF was fighting to enhance his legacy. Thats why im so dissapointed bout the Oscar rematch, it clearly shows that is not the case.

I think its pretty much true, though im sure most guys want to truly be the best because theyre competitors at heart, if money wasnt involved, how many guys would really go out there and take a beating for fun. His statement just made me think, because people act like the old fighters were just fighting to fight but this guy had a different outlook.

Another thing, it said that Cooney and Holmes both made 10mill a piece for their fight, i just thought that was astounding, especially for that time.
Greg Page boxed basically because his father made him to.

Ali's reason was to make his voice heard. He had made enough money but he just kept fighting and fighting until he had absolutely nothing left.

If boxers box for money solely...

then idiots like you... and those who spawned you should be forcefed **** for saying cowards like the hooded gayweather as GREAT.

Dude... money and greatness are distinct.

Can we agree on that or are you another hypocrite?

              I bet you are.

I think that "" is not just true about boxing, but pro sports in general

think about it, as a professional it's these respective athletes (be it foot, or baseball or hockey or in this case boxing) job if you will

why wouldn't they want to get paid as much as possible if given the choice?

money might not be the ONLY reason, but for PRO athletes it's a big factor.

I agree with that statement legacy and status is just icing on the cake. I like my job but I wouldn't do this **** for free and I don't come close to doing anything physical on my job. All pro sports is about money first and competition and things of that nature is second. Every now and again you will get a few people who put money aside for something personal they want to accomplish and those things usually happen in the beginnig or end of said person's career.

that might be true about Wlad .. but doctor or boxer .. he's still getting $$

and considering all the championship fight's he's been in, I bet the money he makes boxing, trumps what he could have made as a doc.
