Well, Larry Merchant was a football player. He was a respected journalist. He was promoting Joe Frazier with a bunch of other guys back in the day and he's got the balls og Godzilla. His logic and analogies are dead on. His character is made of marble. Now compare Kellerman to that! Did I sound like a fanboy of Larry? That's cause I am.

It bothers me that he doesn't seem to like any fighters but black fighters. I can't think of one Latino or white fighter that you knew he really loved and appreciated. He's like a super nuthugger of Jones, Floyd, Whittaker. he does come off as a fanboy who has a good voice and enthusiasm but he never really tells us anything we don't know or can't see for ourselves, or any real interesting insights about the fighters. It's like he doesn't know any of the fighters except from what he reads about them.

He has the voice and TV appearance but he really says nothing of significance, just enthusiastic chatter. ESPN let him go and the ratings went up when they brought the fighters in the studio which is a great treat for us fans to enjoy. and Max also seems out of his league with HBO. Jones, Foreman, Scully would all be better choices IMO. Listen to Steward's comments next to Max's and they are light years apart.

Maybe Max will someday mature into a bonafide and credible and qualified commentator but he is not htere right now, not even close.

To me, the Jim Lampley-Larry Merchant-George Foreman trio had the best chemistry of class, panache, and entertainment. They made every HBO show an event, regardless of who was on.

"This fight is a lot like Tua-Ibeabuchi. The difference being that Ibeauchi was bigger and stronger than Povetkin, and that Tua had more power than Chambers."
So basically... it wasn't like Tua-Ibeabuchi at all. Thanks, Max.

Yeah he is ****ing useless. He actually takes away from the fights that he comments on. I would rather listen to silence then Max.

I agreed with his assesment of Roy Jones Jr in his last performance, when he said if Roy wants to feel good after his next fight he better fight someone smaller like De La Hoya, as opposed to the Pavlik/Taylor winner or Hopkins/Calzaghe winner!!!!

He said Ibeabuchi-Byrd... which it actually kind of was like Ibeabuchi-Byrd.

I was praying to god that he didn't actually liken Eddie Chambers to David Tua.
