    Give Povetkin Credit

Rather than being negative and bitter because this young Russian fighter, Alexander Povetkin, just won an important victory and has now become the IBF heavyweight mandatory, people should give him credit.

The truth is, Povetkin has done very well. In only 15 pro fights, he's already earned a title shot. Think of all the fighters like Malik Scott, Faruq Saleem and Tye Fields who never take any risks, never step up. Here's a guy who had his first pro fight only 2 1/2 years ago, and has already won a world title eliminator.

Some people have a sickeningly bad habit of always discrediting successful fighters who are not American. Some are now saying that Chambers is no good. But the truth is, no one who fought him in his first 30 pro fights was able to break through his amazingly tight defense. "Fast Eddie" had a 30-0 record by the age of 25, and he's a very fast-handed, technically sound boxer. Eddie, like Povetkin, earned his right to fight in this eliminator. He didn't have Don King as a promoter - he needed to get some solid wins before he was given the chance. Yes, the truth is Eddie Chambers is a good fighter.

This was an impressive win for Sasha. Throughout the fight he showed a great workrate, and the ability to throw creative combinations. In the late rounds he showed he has excellent stamina. And he accomplished something no one else had been able to do: he broke through Chambers defense and landed some good shots in those last two rounds. The reason why Chambers wasn't doing much is he wasn't given a chance to, because of Povetkin's relentless attack!

So let's give this aggressive, exciting fighter credit for winning an important fight over a difficult opponent!

Yeah you can knock his defence a little, but you can't knock his determination, workrate, and stamina. I've heard lots of comments about how slow he is, but I think that is only in comparison to Chambers and I don't think Pov is slow for a HW at all. Plus he throws some nice combinations and is relentless.

Great post Tunney, Povetkin is a true warrior, he is a real fighter that is willing to fight anyone, he dosen't pad his record with tomato cans.

Povetkin hasn't even entered his prime yet, he only has 15 pro fights and he is still somewhat green. He was sick with the flu and wasn't 100%, but he still managed to win a clear cut UD over a very skilled more experienced opponent in Eddie Chambers. Big props to Povetkin.

quality post. This fight was between my two favorite young heavyweights and both are good fighters. Let Chambers fight some of these older guys and see how well they do, he'll tag a few with a loss. And while Sasha didn't have a breakout performance lets think about who he has beaten. Chris Byrd (yes Byrd is past it, but he too would beat some other top 15 guys), Friday Ahunanya, who KO'd Shane Cameron in a brutal fight was absolutely destroyed clinically by Povetkin, add in Larry Donald and some middle of the road guys Povetkin has done more in his 15 fights than many other contenders.

I absolutely give him credit, after just 15 fights hes verry good already and a Top10 heavyweight, or even Top5! He had a real good opponent in front of him! But that will not the change the fact that Wlad will beat him bad if he doesnt improve much. I think they should teach him more to bob and weave, move the body more from side to side and duck punches and then counter. If he does that Wlad could get poblems.

What impressed me most was how Povetkin was very aggressive during the last two rounds. Many other heavyweights have stamina problems. Sasha did look a bit tired, but he was still able to turn it up towards the end, and this also indicated he has the heart of a lion.

Povetkin is too small and those not hit hard enough to become great.

His skills are Ok but nothing special, seriously I'm more impressed with Iggy then Povetkin.
Iggy is not a big guy himself but he has much heavier hands then Povetkin.

Povetkin will lose to Iggy next.

Well, he was the best amateur super heavyweight of all time, and Olympic Gold medal winner. He's already had a great amateur career.

I give him credit, its interesting how he doesnt look super fit but he has so much stamina, and you have someone like Wlad who looks like he is in incredible shape but has very little stamina..
