Why does Floyd never have mandatories?

Don Jose confirmed: “Mayweather is in a voluntary stage. As a boxing commissioner, I’ll tell you, whoever is of good quality that is rated, we’ll support.

Thats very funny Mayweather's the only fighter in the world that is in a neverending voluntary stage. When was the last time Floyd fought a mandatory. It's easy to always look good and win when you always get to pick who you fight.

First of all, alot of the mandatories are crappy opponents. Ever see Hopkins defend his title against a couple mandatories that can't fight for ****???

Second to answer your question. Suliman knows that Floyd will vacate the title if he pushes mandatories in his face. He already vacated the IBF title after beating Judah. The reason Suliman is doing that is because he is greedy and wants a peace of the sanctioning fees money that comes in Floyd fights which are higher then most other fighters.

If it makes money, it makes sense.

Yes, Mayweather has the most hand-picked resume of any titleholder. Next, he'll again fight the past prime DLH, who has ONE win in FOUR years...

He picked Ricky Hatton but Ricky was also an undefeated fighter who was ranked top 10 p4p..........big difference.

Nothing like Oscar picking a jr.welter for a tune-up. I would be fine with a welterweight BUT jr.welter?????? Common.

Floyd's opponents are always past prime (DLH) shot (Gatti) smaller (Hatton) or coming off a loss (Judah).

Why won't he fight Cotto or Williams?

That seems like a buncha excuses to me. Didn't Cotto fight the same Judah...except that Judah was coming off of a 1 year layoff and 2 straight losses. Hatton, alot of people picked him to win.......so forget all that nonsense.

There is two sides to every story. I suggest you read the begining of this thread http://www.boxingscene.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=159855

Nice that you're pumping up Hatton when it benefits Floyd. But realistically, Hatton had beaten no one before Tszyu and was artificially boosted up to #4 based on a single win over an inactive, often injured, 36 year old. He steadily slipped from then till the Floyd fight in the rankings because of mediocre performances like the one against Collazo (who came very close to stopping him.) But please, don't act like Ricky was the toughest opponent out there for Floyd at all.

Well I think Dios_dominicano finally got through some of you. You're exactly right. There are tougher opponents then Hatton out there. Still, on paper he was the undefeated guy alot of dip****s thought had a shot at beating floyd.

A good lucrative fight for Floyd. He knew it was gonna be an easy fight and he took it because of that. On paper, Hatton WAS NOT a bum even though Floyd called him a bum. There you have it........

There is a difference between skill and resume. Hattonn was the perfect bum with a good resume to beat. Smart move on Floyd.

I would say something along the lines of "Nice that you're downplaying Hatton after he lost to Floyd", but to tired to "argue" right now.

edit: by the way if he had fought Mosley he'd have "picked on another old guy" and if he fought Cotto and beat him it'd be "Who had he beat? A Judah who just lost to Mayweather and Baldomir before him?"

Well I did bet ALL my points on Floyd before the fight, so I'm not sure what your point would be. I didn't (and still don't) think Hatton was a bum and argued that point before the fight.
