Absolutely. And I would hope that some people here would have a little respect for an athlete who gave to the sport.

Barkley has always been a nice guy to me, and I have always returned the sentiments. But he doesn't need to be boxing, his speech isn't always coherent and his physical condition is bordering on obese. Barkley has a caretaker watching after him, the same guy who watches over Emmile Griffith. A man that needs a caretaker doesn't need to be in a professional prize ring.

I agree 100%. It's really a shame he has so little money after so many years in the sport.

I remember about six years ago being in Las Vegas for an HBO card. Before the TV time came on the ring announcer was introducing celebrities at ringside. Iran Barkley was introduced and there barely was any applause. This made me kind of sad because he was a warrior that had been in some great fights and spilled a lot of blood in the ring. His KO over Tommy Hearns was one of the most incredible I'd ever seen (watch it sometime, the 3rd round was off the charts). Then a couple of minutes later they introduced 2nd rate rock singer Sammy Hagar. He got a loud ovation. That didn't give me a very high opinion of Las Vegas fight crowds.

Yeah, that KO of Hearns was his best moment as a pro. He was indeed a warrior that should be recognized.

I met Iran Barkley about 5 years ago and he was a nice guy. He was overweight when I saw him which was noticeable mainly because he fought as a middleweight and supermiddleweight during his career. Are you sure about Barkley having a caretaker? The guy is only 47 which means he is still fairly young.

His face was full of blood and he was taking some of the most wicked body shots I ever saw. It looked like the fight was about to be stopped and then came that big right from nowhere.

Yeah, the look on Hearns' face told the whole story.

I don't know about Iran being robbed by promotors because he has always admitted to squandering the money he made over the years. I was sad to hear that he had to return back to the projects to live in because he ran out of money.

It's sad that he had to fight even though he was completely shot and punch drunk because he was screwed by the promoters who robbed most of his money.
