Virchis will knock Rahman into the $50 tickets area, he's very strong, although not very technically sound.
There's like 5-6 guys who are already promised a shot at the WBC title. It's a mess.

Peter is going to have his shot at the title now, Vitali later, Golota was promised a title shot, Oliver McCall won a title eliminator against Sam and Juan Carlos Gomez won another title eliminator against McCall.

Chances are, the winner will have to fight 2 or 3 more title eliminator fights until he gets a title shot.

Virchis is a dangerous fighter who isn't known anywhere except in Germany and Russia, if you beat him you won't get much respect (atleast from the Americans) and if you lose to him your career is done, especially when you're Rahman who is getting up there in age.

Manchine, don't forget Virchis is almost universally recognized as a top ten HW. If Rah were to outbox him, he'd be back in the picture. This is a great fight for him to take.

As far as I understand, this is the eliminator that WBC announced, which is different from what promoters are saying all the time. From what I read, the winner of this fight is guaranteed a shot against Peter/Maskaev if Vitali doesn't step in. If he does, the winner of this fight is next in line. Of course, that's what WBC said, which is always questionable.

Virchis is a top HW (though not very known) but there's no chance Rahman is going to beat Virchis, his style is all wrong for Rahman even if Rahman was 6-7 years younger.

Rahman's best chance is to KO someone and he isn't KO'ing Virchis, he is the one who is going to get KO'd instead. Rahman will be retired, his career will be over.

This is a horrible fight for Rahman to take after his dreadful performances against lesser competition. I guess he is banking on the fact that he won't have to deal with Virchis' boxing skills.

I have to give respect for Rahman if he takes this fight because if he does, he proves he has the courage to take on anyone even though the match-up sounds bad on paper.

This is a great fight for him to take because he earns my respect and if he wins he is back in the picture but this is a horrible fight for him to take because I think he will lose badly and his career will be over.

Yes but the winner of McCall/Sam was also promised a shot at the title but Peter was the mandatory before that, then they had Gomez/McCall but Maskaev vs Peter was postponed so they wanted to have Gomez fight Virchis in another title eliminator.

The winner of this fight will probably have to fight in just another title eliminator if Vitali decides to fight the winner of Maskaev/Peter and Andrew Golota is back in the title picture as well.

Gomez vs. was not a WBC eliminator, it wasn't ordered by the WBC as an eliminator - that fight was just for some minor title. Sam Peter was the #1 contender before he won the interim title, and then Virchis was ranked #1 contender in October even before the McCall vs. Gomez fight.

JC Gomez is acting like a child.

First he refused to abide by his contract with Arena, but now he's changed his mind.

Now he says he cannot fight on March 8, because he's not in shape. He says he needs more time to prepare, and wants to postpone it until early April.

The eliminator was announced in November by the WBC - I think that should have given Gomez plenty of time to prepare to fight on March 8.

BoxRec is not always 100% reliable. They had Calzaghe vs. Hopkins on Sunday April 13 at Yankee Stadium on their schedule for a week or so.
